(But you can use it for nearly everything: poor engineering shortcuts when building your house or highway, getting siphyilis, voting conservative, or buying a Russian mail order bride and getting siphyilis. These all have very negative long term impacts in exchange for a short term happiness, and correcting them is expensive and tragic)

@malwareminigun friend, you gotta look past the technological impacts of what's in your pockets, on your desks, where ever, and rediscover that whimsy we lost sometime ago when computers stopped being fun and just became gray, faceless, containers for broken software. A device that we can ascribe a human activity like "ugh this tastes terrible!" is so much more fun than "VIRUS DETECTED IN USB E:"

@datn @hnrfineart oh! Well, it's like this: Knife Tank! is a card game where you are a tank with a knife trying to beat your opponent. It has to be played on a tabletop. You have to physically move your tank card and attack your opponent according to shuffled move, stab, and special action cards. A Knife Tank! game lasts about 20min which is about as long as it takes to finish your drink and then buy the next round because I just stabbed your tank to death.
We had a Knife Tank! mini tournament this past week; I came out on top, just edging @hnrfineart@sfba.social with a 7 to 6 win-loss.
Had a pre-coffee idea this morning: auto-ejecting USB ports.
Device all charged up? Port automatically ejects the cable.
Malware on thumb drive? Host spits it out.
Files all copied successfully? Ptoooie!

@engideer @nixCraft Yeah, I mean, queerness is just one example (an important one, but it definitely exists). It could be ANYTHING - access to religion, wanting to vote republican, interested in a career greater than just continuing the family biz - that would warrant "wanting to learn about something in private".
If it's "general internet safety", teach the kids how to suss that out and protect themselves.
If it's the "in private" you object to, ask yourself why your kids don't trust you.

we had the household computer like a lot of people, and a common space meant that I didn't feel safe reading topics on sexuality or gender, aging and health, or on travel to other states or countries, unless the entire house was empty (and even then not toootally comfy doing so). The idea that "kids need to be safe" has to be balanced with "kids need access to info", and you can't do that when you're constantly surveilling them. Give them the tools to be safe instead.
