--end-of-options feels like a bad solution. oh well. nobody's going to want to spend the effort to fix the original sin

@joeycastillo@mastodon.social I like this parenthetical:

(When we shared the working prompt in internal Slack for discussion, someone pointed out that some internal agents read Slack. The payload was now ambient. We added a canary string to the thread so we'd notice if anything picked it up. In a world where agents read everything, the investigation tooling is also an attack surface.)

@davva23@kolektiva.social @thibaultmol@en.osm.town @FolksVelo@mas.to For me, the most obvious flaw in this image is that the green dots make no sense. What are they? The city labels are pointing at dots that aren't green. The caption says "40 European cities" but there are more than 40 green dots. The dots aren't all the same size and shape, why? It's incoherent, and unlikely to be something a person would do intentionally. Gen-AI outputs tend to be locally plausible, globally incoherent, and a weird mix of slick and amateur.

today's squirrel-chase: I don't remember how I got onto "undertale x outer wilds", but there are a dozen such mashups on youtube. most are ok.

1. this is my favorite audio-remix version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO9QZr4uCbs

2. this is my favorite rescored version (which has "spoilers" in the title for unclear reasons; there's nothing that spoils either game unless you have eidetic memory for musical motifs):

Death of a Unicorn (2025) is... eh. it wants to be a farce, but the comedy is weak, underdeveloped. it's ok if you like seeing people getting gored by feral unicorns, otherwise ... *shrug*. if you've seen the trailer, you can anticipate everything that happens, and the elaboration of the movie is kinda tedious. the trailer is better than the movie

@cwebber I looked at every image in the first 30s before I got tired. all of them have weirdnesses that make them "uncanny": hyper-real with strange mistakes and implausibilities.

  • stacks of photos have edges that don't line up
  • cave art and renaissance paintings have muddy details and confused structure
  • diagrams are missing labels or have labels pointing weirdly
  • museum photos have ceiling spotlights aimed at nothing etc. it's all superficial, uncanny slop. it's very tiring to look at

@markgritter@mathstodon.xyz @nicole@tietz.social anthropic has a paper where they basically discover their LLM has a "persona space". it has clusters for things like "text from a helpful expert", and by messing with weights you can steer responses toward or away from the "helpful expert" direction. of course this is just *sounding like* a helpful expert. there's another dimension for "text resembles memorized training data" (which is still not the same as truth, of course. RAG gets a little closer, but still misses)

@Daojoan@mastodon.social this is why I signed up for my bank's "you like surveys don't you?" list. every few months I get asked a bunch of inane questions about the wording for a hypothetical credit card offer, and most of my responses are like, "geez I don't care about any of this weird micro-optimization that feels like it's trying to trick me in some way. this would go straight to spam in 0.5 seconds if I weren't looking at it for this survey"

@marginalia@mastodon.social my best guess: there's an "Identification and Involvement with the Gay Community" scale from a 1998 paper that includes the question "How often do you read a gay or lesbian oriented paper or magazine, such as the Advocate or other local gay/bisexual papers"

@globalmuseum@mastodon.online "photo" is probably generative AI. can't find a photographer credit. search for visual matches only finds copies that appeared in the past few days. search for "Mary Chubb" finds no photos that match, and the hat here is unlike what she wears in the few other photos of her

@GroupNebula563 @indigoviolet yeah, this is the version I saw many years ago, posted in 2021 before gen-AI. I haven't found who created it originally https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/kxuqmg/this_one_took_me_a_lil_while/

@grumpygamer the agentic coding sweet spot is when you tell an agent to make a change that passes the testsuite. it might not get it right first try, but it can retry on its own until it does pass tests, and in the meantime you can play Freecell or burn yourself out checking the output of the other 79 agents doing stuff for you. and you can ask the agent to first write tests for you, which works as well as anything else. (of course, testsuites are hard to do for videogames)
