George — Information Security professional with 30+ years across the digital frontier, from dial-up-era networks to critical infrastructure. Early career: managed networks at one of Orlando’s first ISPs and secured systems for pioneering internet ventures, including the nation’s first internet bank; later roles at Home Depot and Southern Company. 25+ years specifically in InfoSec; most recently managed vulnerability management and PKI at Southern Company.

Progressive democratic socialist with deep technical roots. Fiercely principled, unapologetically direct, and a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Queer atheist who views religion as a major source of global conflict. Zero tolerance for bullshit; developed a razor-sharp perspective and lost patience for nonsense about a decade ago.

Political positions: condemns systemic injustice with the same rigor used in securing IT systems. Supports Black Lives Matter and trans rights; opposes the 2nd Amendment; wants accountability for ICE and DHS over human-rights violations.

Also curious and humane: finds wonder in scientific complexity, humor in life’s absurdities, and joy in intellectual pursuit. If you’ve been marginalized, questioned everything, and refuse to be defined by cruelty, you’ll likely get along with George.

In late 2025 I was diagnosed with, and began treatment for, ADHD.

Wow! Would you like to #schedule #posts in #Sharkey a bit more eloquently? My friend Mike has vibe coded a *nix shell script to do exactly that! This is pretty cool.

CW: Mike's profile is very NSFW so you might not want to 'explore' it.

Just watched #ProjectHailMary. Holy cow. If this movie doesn't win an Oscar for Best Picture I don't know what will. And I'm going to just say this: This was #RyanGosling's best acting performance of his career so far.

@pwarren@mastodon.thewarrens.name I know I'm responding late but yes that would be grounds for a foreclosure. However, usually the lending company will get their own insurance for the property if you lose yours, and they will add the premiums to your mortgage payment (escrow). But one thing you can count on is that the lender will not get you the most cost-effective insurance or the "most bang for your buck" either. The lender's concern is simply about preserving the collateral they have (your home) in your loan.

@dlakelan@mastodon.sdf.org The alternative is people completely losing access to their data. I can't fault Microsoft for escrowing the keys by default (hell that's probably why they disabled local accounts) and let's be realistic here maybe a half-dozen people have their keys turned over due to a subpoena or court order. Like I said, for those that ARE privacy conscious there is a way to not have your keys escrowed with them. Or I guess you can use Linux & Luks and pray to god you don't lose your keys there.

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe In the critical infrastructure sector controls are designed to fail open (as in break the circuit) and monitoring systems all have watchdog timers. If an "I'm still here!" ping is not received when it's expected to be received, an alarm goes off. I say this not to distract from your original point. External monitoring for critical systems is a must.

@rysiek@mstdn.social If they did that then they wouldn't be able to control how their content is presented to you. They want to be able to track you and show you ads. RSS lets you easily bypass all that. I'm not saying I agree with what they do, and I agree with you about RSS, just pointing out that's why they stopped doing that.

More importantly though the one thing I don't use is an LLM to write my scenes. Besides, it would be too much of a pain in the ass to work any of that into Scrivener.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange I mean... My Ford Taurus died on the side of the road on I-95 near Miami back in 1996. Replaced it with a used Chrysler LeBaron I bought out of a newspaper ad in the Florida Sun-Sentinel. Turns out the LeBaron was stolen. Fast forward 4 months later and I get into an accident in Margate. Rear-ended a.... Ford Taurus. No damage to their car. LeBaron was totaled. (I was doing 10 mph). Airbag went off. Front end totally collapsed. That's when I found out the car was stolen. That's also when I found out someone can be "arrested" without actually being "booked" (taken down to the Police station). Only thing that kept me from getting my mugshot taken was because I got insurance on the LeBaron. Cop told me he's never heard of a car thief that got insurance on the car they stole. So... I can believe the guy when he says he bought a Corolla that was used in a homicide.
