It's so strange... Bolivia is literally in the midst of a nascent revolution right now. General strike since Monday, massively supported across the poorest, working and middle classes. Public highways blocked. Police evicted from stations across the country (almost always peaceably). 100s of thousands of people marching on the capital. Increasingly unhinged pronouncements from the Paz administration and the Uber wealthy in Santa Cruz. Coverage of this in western media? Practically nothing.

Over 100,000 reservists have refused to be called up since October 7th. 6,000+ soldiers have refused to serve beyond the 1967 borders. You can, correctly, criticise Israeli society as a whole for not opposing the wars, but don't refuse to acknowledge that there are people who opposed it.

If using a giant model like Claude, you might want to consider what remodelling that code will cost the planet in terms of direct carbon output, electricity generation, water pollution, amortised environmental cost of building the Pollution Centres and the ongoing damage to local communities of the Pollution Centres. If you can live with all that? Sure, use your magic auto complete. Just don't expect others to not judge you for it. Not saying I would, btw, but that's the argument .

@annathepiper I don't understand how the settlement amount is so small... When i was at uni eleventy dozen years ago, I was in the Dramat. The amount of money we, a small university amdram society playing to maybe 200 people, were asked for by rights holders -- per night -- vastly exceeds the settlement figure. And that was literally borrowing the words for a few nights, which is the limit of what Anthropic are willing to admit what they did here.

Some of the knee jerk reactions on here are properly ill informed.

There were two significant votes.

Vote 1. A vote to amend the proposal from the EPP and the Commission, which amendment banned "automated assessment of unknown photos and text" -- in other words, removed Chatcontrol from the text before Parliament. (This was amendment 34)

This was opposed by the EPP and the Nazis, but was supported by Renew, Greens, Left and most of Socialists and NonAligned.

It passed by ONE VOTE.

I've given lectures on the concept at summer camps, occupy's and sit ins. Given papers to trots, Maoists, degrowthers and anarchists. There's a fundamental difference between that acceptance and what Cory and tante are talking about. They're preaching defeatism - "there's no point, so why bother." They're moving from the acceptance to active participation, and that's just bullshit. Resistance means using what's available within the limited scope, not joining in the oppression.

Now, I'm no fan of Winnie Warmonger, but that's a damned lie. Churchill never said that. The quote comes from a modern day foreword to a 1938 Book by Sydney Rogers on (Propaganda in the Next War). The foreword to the reprint was written by David Pidcock, founder of the Institute for Rational Economics, a conspiracy theory "think tank". Among Pidcock's other works are his translations, which 'prove' that Napoleon was a secret Muslim, and that the entirety of the Napoleonic Code is actually Shariah Law. Thanks to the foreword, the book is a massive favourite among "those sorts" of people, the ones with the Hakenkreuz tats and lightning bolt badges.
