@Aiyame@tiggi.es On SailfishOS, banking worked fine through my bank's web app since it is mobile optimized. Mobile key verification, on the other hand, requires android app. But I had no android compatibility layer to test that. On UbuntuTouch I tried the Waydroid for banking, it worked fine. But neither Morph broswer nor Firefox for UbuntuTouch were mature enough to handle the web interface. I don't have first-hand experience with postmarketOS, but I would bet that my bank's web interface works on its browser and the android app works under Waydroid. The result heavily depends on your bank's android app / webapp and how the user validation happens in them.

#Fairphone 5, with tha large number of supported OSes, was a big step towards not being at the mercy of Google. I think, the next similarly big step would be if the devide would be built form components whose manufacturers do not hide the drivers, but instead push them to the kernel or make them available as open source. Camera, audio, NFC and fingerprint reader should not be conditional based on what distro you use. A device being open like that would hardly have any competition. #openhardware

@daj@gofer.social This looks great! I’ve been searching for the ideal alternative to Keep for a while now. Obsidian feels too heavy, and everything else I’ve tried has missed the mark. Memos came close, but it lacks the ability to sort items by their checked status, which is a critical feature for our shared shopping list.

But considering the amount of technical debt that vibe-coded source code usually carries, it can probably accelerate the cycle that characterizes startups: a sudden surge, followed by burnout. Technical debt can quickly become a more suffocating factor than anything else that might threaten a project.

I'd like to leave #Spotify behind. Although they are Swedish and not American, I'm aware that their business model is unsustainable. They pay very little to artists and, run unforgivable ads sometimes, and accept too much #slop.

I tried #Deezer as an alternative, and on a week I used both services, it attempted 20 times more commucation towards data trackers than Spotify. 😨

It's great that my #Fairphone measures and blocks it, but I don't see Deezer as a viable alternative anymore.

Yet they used it in their aqueducts anyway. Cheap, easy to mine (= comfortable to access), so no one cared about the consequences. Sure, lead was not the only cause of Rome’s collapse or the thousand years of barbarism that followed. But cognitively impairing entire urban populations surely took its toll on political competence. 🤷

I've just read about #Nolto. Do you use it? What are your experiences? Have you found articles about it? I wanted to try it out instantly, but as I opened the page, something felt odd. The mastodon in a suit is convenient mascot, but can you just reuse or build on an existing mascot to get yours? How does it work legally? It was kind of a warning sign for me. And my next thought was: If the mascot might be in a legal gray zone, are other areas okay legally? Who will own, use and handle my data if I register on someone's instance? Will it be safe? And I've looked for articles to read about Nolto and found nothing relevant besides a toot stream that its codebase looks a bit odd. That's two more warning signs. I won't register yet but follow the app closely before giving it trust. The web app couldn't even show me content from the inatance. #mastodon instances do it. I would like to replace #LinkedIn, but only with a more reliable alternative.
