I took a vet fishing this morning here in the Driftless. After six hours, we'd accounted for over 20 bass and a single bluegill. It was a crazy morning, we just hit them at the right time with the right lures. Well, I have a feeling that my little 8Gb Linux box isn't going to run Ollama very quickly. I did get it up and running and fed an export of my Etinerra wiki into it. I'm exploring options so that it hallucinates less and provides facts more. But it's not too difficult to set up and feed documents to. It is, however, kinda pokey. I'm exploring how to address that. #TTRPG #AI #Ollama

A view of my backyard gardens - the containers are doing well with herbs, a cherry tomato and my cucumbers. The in-ground fenced green bed has a cover crop of buckwheat, while I've got pumpkins growing nearby. I have two tomato plants that I put in the ground rather than composting. The Egyptian walking onions have been great! The dwarf blackberry has really taken off this year and lots of flowers, so I'm hoping for fruit. And my rhubarb seems to have taken, so that's good. #Gardening

@wulfric@beige.party I went hard to get my Technician & General Ham license last year. And to be honest, I've been dormant since. I live in a radio black hole for UHF/VHF, I can't reliably get to repeaters and I'm not financially able to go buy HF gear and antennas to be able to get above the hill line enough. I could do EchoLink but I just don't have the time to watch YT videos and learn this program to do Ham over the PC. GMRS is fine, about a mile or two range has been my experience. #HamRadio

I just learned that D&D 5e has a monster named "pit fiend" that I never knew about in my 1e bubble.

My pit fiend is based off an old monster minis set produced by Grenadier back in the 1980s under a separate label. Their Fantasy Monsters set had a "One Eyed Pit Monster".

In my Etinerra campaign, a pit fiend is a homebrew monster of Chaos.

Tonight's AD&D game was some serious business. A battle was fought at a Chaos Anchor, featuring a necromancer, a pit fiend and a wraith.

For only the second time in my various games in this 16 year campaign did a player get level drained - they failed their save vs death and went from a Druid 4 to a Druid 2.

The party ended up killing the necromancer but fleeing the field of battle - the hero fighter with the only magic weapon was almost dead!

Carrots are in, two weeks late than I had planned. Chalk it up to the wet weather stacking things up for me.

Next is the amaranth and parsnips, and planting the container garden with herbs that I'm sowing.

The buckets have been refreshed with a quarter of the dirt exchanged for fresh compost. So the container garden is ready - the frame survived the winter!

Anakinning of my seedlings is all done. Next week starts the hardening - already!!?? This year, the time of raising seedlings went by real fast. Maybe because it's a been-there-done-that?

I'm not complaining because I've been much more successful this year... at least with the good seeds! Not so much with the el-cheapos, but now I know for next year.

Successes: Johnnys Seeds, Burpee (color me surprised on that one)

@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp I snuck into my Dad's stash of scifi books and found several of the Gor books back in the 70s. They were "naughty" to a pre-teen/teen, but as an RPG setting? C'mon... I vaguely remember JD now, I stayed away. My biggest exposure to OSR drama was Axe/TARGA-gate in 2010 and I was just done with OSR circus and monkeys.

@Tim_Eagon@dice.camp I don't know James D, but man, Bryce was on FIRE! Bryce is the big reason I never published my Mesopotamian themed setting/dungeon "Tomb of Hulkersag". Bryce's reviews and suggestions of other OSR modules had me quietly shelve my own. I am not a good adventure-to-sell writer. I think my DM skills are improv-at-the-table and with making the stuff come alive in response to players, but putting it on paper to sell? Nope. I failed a lot of Bryce's checks.

And some anger that we squandered a lot of opportunities to be on the Moon already. So yes, if China gets to the Moon before we return, I'll be deeply disappointed. But hopeful that we'll redouble our efforts to return there for good.

It all depends on how simple you want to get and how much houseruling on effects of spells/items you'd want to do, vs the rules giving you that.

Something like 1974 D&D/0e - or one of the retroclones like Swords & Wizardry? Much more simple rules, but I think would be able to lift/shift their gear and stuff to the simpler rules and be able to DM-rule on how things work.

I hope your friend's daughter doesn't mind me diving a bit into "the truth of factual reality" versus our opinions/beliefs that have been shaped by our environment (including media and social beliefs). Some of their questions were hard to answer because of that difficulty in what is real, and what we believe to be real.
