Upon further testing, i discovered the titlebar colormatch might have been a fluke, due to my use of a light theme during the day Dark themes don't seem to match, unfortunately Wonder if it's feedback that'd be acceptable by Firefox- or if they even can control that at all Seems reasonable to have Panel gaps match system theme regardless of the Browser theme (Or to at least include it as an option?)

also i'm going to be the first person to say i don't hate the Nova redesign in testing... It's far better than the previous UI, though that's not a high bar to clear. I really wish they still had the older UI circa the Trapezoidal tabs era, but that seems like a no-brainer. In comparison to now, i think the design is far better. I'm a sucker for Vertical tabs, but hate the single-width topbar, and enabling the Title bar is ugly as sin on the current window design- but even with my normal Lavender theme on it, the new design with the titlebar looks really nice. The titlebar color is consistent in the gaps between all the panels, so it doesn't just have a hard cutoff line. Examples below [Current 1st, Nightly + Nova 2nd]

Y'know, Firefox honestly confounds me. They get so caught up in trying to chase trends for a market they don't have, and it seemed to me for so long like it was blind ignorance from corporate leaders who don't respect the brand or the history of Firefox and Mozilla.

They start shoving in AI and promising more visual redesigns...

Then they go and start sending letters basically promising not to follow draconian age verification laws, and...

i genuinely don't know what to make of this company??

Is it a bunch of ignorant figureheads planted by Google to control its only competition and keep it from genuine success? Or do these people genuinely think they are doing the best for the brand they can?

Maybe there's hope for them yet, because despite being an avid Vivaldi user for the last 6-ish months due to the Firefox AI issues, the decision to directly face Identity verification head-on has actually convinced me to switch back, despite all odds. I didn't think there was a way to dethrone AI as my #1 big-ticket issue in the browser wars, but they found it.

I truly had zero faith in them as an entity to be anything more than a puppet of Google now, but as Google has become one of the biggest supporters and beneficiaries of Identity verification, their "puppet" deciding "hey, you know what, maybe breaking the law on that is our duty now" is NOT what i expected of them.

IF THE OTHERS ONLINE HAD A PUBLIC SPACE TO JUST GO FUCK, I WOULD HAVE BEEN SPARED. the reason i mention all of those things? well, because the throughline there is "things people will say you're a pedophile for endorsing"

Does anyone know what's a good way to get semi-cheap USB drives in bulk that aren't basically faulty out of the factory?

I live in Australia, and we're pretty much about to enter an information dark age over here, with ID verification demanded by almost the entire internet here- while feeding the ID verification stack through a government-owned proprietary digital ID system.

SO, I want to start keeping a stockpile of USB flash drives with TailsOS flashed to them, along with a hand-manual of sorts for regular people to get started with understanding it and learning to use Gnome through it.

That way, i can start giving these to everyone i'm acquainted with to continue to hide their traffic online when discussing anything our fucked government deems "sensitive" in some capacity.

They do not need to be large- 16gb or even 32gb is MORE than enough for a majority of people's use cases for Tails. Most people probably won't even have any encrypted storage on their setup.

I have no idea how to source things like this, so i'd appreciate the information!

The only thing preventing this from happening with total success is the internet- and maybe that's the point of people like this? But i'm sorry, fuck you, a failed genocide is still a genocide. Do we need to forgive these monsters and not march them into a room and pump them full of lead like we would have for Hitler because "the internet saved us anyway"? Would Hitler have been forgiven if the holocaust happened today because his victims might have had the resources to mobilise and either escape or survive the onslaught because of the internet? but even on that basis, it endures. that basis endures to this day.

i don't mean to be dismissive at all, by the way- unfortunately i'm not jewish and know next to nothing of jewish culture and history and the way it was affected and is still affected by the holocaust. so i can't speak for this perspective at all. but i don't think i have to, to point out just how horrifically apt that statement is.

but i think i CAN speak for the way most white fucks like me think, which is the above. a war of wrath and pride, where a powerful man weaponised the growing fear and uncertainty of his people in the name of an ever-increasing kill count built to justify and perpetuate its own fear. a fight they're always "losing" to "the enemy", as told by their masters. a kill count targeting people on ideological bases that can be reduced to catchphrases and media blackouts that mean they never got a chance to fight back.

that is what WW2, and the third reich, is to most (not all) white people with no notable ethnic background.

You don't NEED to know anything about jewish history and culture to be able to openly acknowledge, IT'S STILL HERE. (you definitely should though and i'd like to learn more if i didn't have so much mentally on my plate to begin with, and if it wasn't for being information i likely would poorly retain anyway. x_x)

I do love this post regardless, i like seeing this perspective more than you could imagine and it's far too rare to see people talk about it. It's just funny, those first few sentences of your post- when from even the most white possible of perspectives considering almost no ethnic history at all, it's so terrifyingly and abundantly obvious, that anyone still saying those kinds of horrific things was never going to listen. If they can't look at the single most blindingly obvious analogue i just gave, comprised of;

no ethnic background
almost no history knowledge (thanks, repression, i dont get to remember basic highschool history)
very very few friends of any ethnic background
and very little time to research and contemplate any of this

then there was never any shot at them understanding this complex perspective respective of ethnic history and the deeper nature of genocide.

even if there's some reason this isn't a genuine shakedown, i sure FEEL like i've been scammed. i didn't pay just for repairability, i paid for a long-life product that i thought i would have for years BECAUSE it was repairable IN THE EVENT of failure- there's a difference. Repairable design is no good if the thing needs to CONSTANTLY be repaired. That still helps no one. knowing now that failure was not an event, but a design guarantee ruins the entire fucking point of it being repairable. a business thinkpad is repairable, but it also doesnt break on purpose to offset the cost of repairability.

I know it's been a while since everything went down with Patel's forum BS. But ever since all that i've found myself being far more critical of their actual product quality, because i find myself unable to dismiss my concerns based purely on the matters of "small business" and "being an ethical mission", because it's not anymore. They're funding people who would actively destroy me and all they have to say about it is "something something big tent".

My laptop is just over a year old. I got it literally days before 2025 started. For reference, my previous laptop was a Thinkpad E495- part of Lenovo's budget lineup, discounted to like 700$ before discontinuation. This laptop cost me 2000$.

The hinge on this laptop is loosening to near unusability- any angle past 90 degrees has it very easily flip completely open with any pressure against my legs, making using it lap-top nearly impossible without the display facing down away from me, causing me pretty notable neck pain.

I'm having captive screws come out for absolutely no reason. I've opened this multiple times before, but i always firmly tighten it.

I'm having rubber feet want to tear off, despite the fact they never have been removed- they never NEED to be.

The laptop SHIPPED with a broken V key, and i had to have it replaced by their support team- which they did thankfully actually do.

These are all minor issues on their own, but these would piss people off if it happened to a Macbook or any big-name Windows laptop, and the only reason it gets dismissed of Framework is because their mission and part availability means it's technically not a problem...

All of this kind of makes me want to call into question their entire "mission", and wonder if it's genuinely just a scam- am i crazy? Because day in and out, the more their ethics seem to only questionably line up with their mission, and the more this laptop falls apart more than it has any right to in this amount of time, the more i realise their mission doesnt MAKE financial sense!

They CAN'T sell business-class reliability and durability, with individual parts at world-class low prices, because it completely contradicts any intentions of profiting! Like, the CHEAPEST POSSIBLE THINKPAD i bought from lenovo has had less major durability concerns than a brand new laptop 2.5x its price- with over 5x the fucking lifespan. To compare that to a Thinkpad of the SAME price, from the ACTUAL business lineup, would make a fucking embarrassment of this FW13.

Why didn't i think of this sooner? Framework functionally HAS to design worse, lower-quality, less durable machines in order to SELL the astoundingly-cheap parts, and design their machines with a ship-of-theseus type of mindset, where it doesn't matter that i'm losing feet, losing screws, parts that would never GO MISSING from other devices- i can functionally replace this entire laptop from the bottom up. How much would THAT cost?

You're telling me they can sell more durable machines, with more parts available and produced, all for record low prices (save the higher price of entry), all so the consumer SAVES money, and THEY LOSE it?? Thinking about it now it's a real "Where does honey get the money" moment. Everyone wins, except them, so what's the fucking catch?
