@desirable_dialogue@ni.hil.ist Reminding that security and privacy goes hand in hand and that GrapheneOS try to keep security and privacy for everyone benefits (and not just pedophiles) is great. No need to keep repeatedly saying they targeted GOS : GOS already did, or say their security and privacy are shit : they say it themselves for security and GOS already mentioned it multiple times in the past. /e/OS should not be a topic in itself, and this is not a direct response to an attack from them

I thought (from this thread https://grapheneos.social/@GrapheneOS/116354085393739314) that iOS is (or can be) hardened as well as GrapheneOS, with some minor differences I think

@GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social I don't think you should attack frontally others like that whenever 😶 Reminding security is privacy is good. Responding to attacks is good (which is not the case *here*) I understand its CEO and the Murena company might have attack the GrapheneOS project in the past, and responding to that was normal too. But I don't see attacking /e/OS like that often as a positive feedback in general. A simple reminder could have been enough. ❤️ on the GrapheneOS project btw

@PatHightree@mastodon.gamedev.place /e/OS is serving closed-source maps (hoping it will become open-source) and OpenAI TTS, that's completely out of my personal ethics sadly. Also I do not want to have google services or it's open-source alternative microG installed on my device at all.

@mojo @flamecat well technically Aurora Store uses Google account under the hood (and still connects to google servers) 🤓 Also, Wero works even without google services, which is the bare minimum (even if it still has some bugs and requires permissions that shouldn't)

@redox@floss.social @soller@floss.social @TornaxO7@mastodon.social I absolutely agrees, I just think currently mobile are more secure than desktop for most cases, while having both big attack surface. Microkernel with capabilities would be the best I guess, (kind of similar to the Nintendo OS or Fuschia from Google) I hope one unified OS for desktop and mobile being secure and open will emerge, and Redox with Risc-V might be a great contender (also I like Rust dev)

@mmstick@fosstodon.org indeed when released phones have at most ≈7 years of update, which is not much, but phones usually don't live that long too. Phones with few years of update should (and will in the EU) be illegal and people shouldn't buy them. Also, phones are much less repairable, and because of the end of life at ≈7 year at most, spare parts cannot be used to keep repairing them as long as we could while keeping the security it offers

@soller@floss.social @TornaxO7@mastodon.social the death of PC and rise of mobile devices comes with something positive : less cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Major PC OS (Windows, MacOS and Linux) are so bad at security compared to mobile OS. I hope new players like @redox@floss.social could come with security in mind (like capabilities) to reduce the huge attack surface traditional PC OS has.
