@demerara@social.vivaldi.net This isn't really a COSMIC thing but a Flatpak one, and we were already shipping Flatpak in previous releases so the same applies there as well.

There's a Learn Linux TV tutorial for tiling in COSMIC though.

@demerara@social.vivaldi.net Synaptic is an X11 window that requires to be run as root, which is incompatible with the Wayland security model. Ubuntu 24.04 does not modify the desktop entry to work around this in Wayland, but you can run it from a terminal with sudo -E synaptic. This will apply for other X11 applications that run as root as well. sudo -E gparted and sudo -E gufw-pkexec, for example. Ideally these would be updated to not require root though.

@demerara@social.vivaldi.net Flatpak is highly recommended for third party applications. If you want to transfer settings to a Flatpak app, you can move its config and data files into ~/.var/app/{{APP_ID_HERE}}/.

As an example, Zoom has ~/.config/zoom.conf and ~/.config/zoomus.conf. You can move that into ~/.var/app/us.zoom.Zoom/config/. You could also move ~/.cache/zoom/ to ~/.var/app/us.zoom.Zoom/cache/.

@blueluma@mastodon.social Most phones and tablets only get a few Android updates, so the vast majority are left on older versions with security vulnerabilities. And even if the hardware is still perfectly fine, there's often not much choice but to upgrade to the next phone every couple years.

@nocci Use the Printers app. It's pre-installed by default with COSMIC.
