This was a private donation to a local political group, and GrapheneOS has never approved donations to any political party.

Generally speaking, your money can always end up going to someone or somewhere you don’t want it to go.

Contrary to what some people believe because that's the impression it gives them, not everyone is attacking GOS, but only a few groups, and right now, GOS is facing pressure and smear campaigns from governments, primarily France, and groups like Murena are taking advantage of this to attack security and privacy in the broadest sense, claiming that hardened devices (like Pixels with GOS) are for pedophiles, spies, etc., but not for “normal people.” So, the situation is tense right now, Duval for Murena spread misinfo about GOS since years. Take a class of 20 students: if there are just 3 troublemakers in the back causing chaos and spreading stories about the other students, we only hear from them, but also, their made-up stories are likely to spread throughout the entire school. Be grateful that groups and experts help you avoid pitfalls and make more informed decisions. The GOS team is one of those experts who share their knowledge; if this weren’t available, I’d be way behind.

@metr0pl3x@grapheneos.social Durov is a 🤡, I'm writting this about his comment on social media where he claims that WhatsApp is a scam, I don't like WhatsApp, but at least, WhatsApp uses E2EE for messaging unlike Telegram which doesn't use it and has never offered anything better than “Secret Chat”, which is completely broken and that no one enables or uses, Telegram has access to all users data that passes through its servers. So there aren't any advanced features, like checking if the memory is corrupted, etc, really hardened features that might be useful for presidents, secret agents, and so on...” The reference to a hardened phone intended for pedophiles is a direct reference to GrapheneOS, the only hardened mobile operating system available, as well as to phones compatible with the project and any other projects or devices that might adopt the same approach. These verbal statements follow a long series of false claims about GrapheneOS on social media. He then states that this hardening may prove effective, but continues with the fallacious logic that it is useful only for high-value, targeted individuals or criminals, and that lambda people would never need it and would have no reason to use enhanced security to protect their data. He claims that GrapheneOS is for a minority and that /e/OS is for everyone.

Duval has been waging a disinformation campaign against GOS for years.

But AOSP is not Google and can be used without Google services, even though AOSP is, in a sense, tied to Google, mainly because Google is the largest contributor, you can create a mobile OS based on AOSP without depending on Google services. You cannot ban FOSS, just as you cannot ban encryption and the mathematics used for it; you can discredit it, try to generate negative publicity, attempt to impose backdoors, etc, which is exactly what authoritarian and fascist regimes are desperately trying to do.

Using root breaks Android's security model, and it is strongly discouraged on production devices. GrapheneOS does not support root and does not provide support for users who root their devices. You can build GrapheneOS yourself with root support using your own signing keys, but you will not receive official support, and the device will need to be updated using your own signing keys.

If you do so, an electric fuse (e-fuse) will blow, which will disable all security features, rendering the device unusable, and reverting to the original OS will do nothing.

We must oppose this. Proposing an alternative to Google’s Play Integrity API that is just as illegal and anti-competitive is absolutely not a good solution, it’s very bad. Users should not have to rely on a centralized authority to choose their operating systems, NO to Play Integrity and NO to Unified Attestation !

@lascapi @GrapheneOS API Google Play Integrity is already an illegal anti-competitive practice; the difference is that Google is the only player and has sufficient resources to defend itself, this is what we call a monopoly. Creating an alternative that does exactly the same thing is just as illegal, this alternative is created through a collaboration between different groups because a single group would not have the resources to do it alone, in legal terms, this is called a cartel. The GrapheneOS project account has provided many detailed answers to help clarify the situation and explain the correct approach to take.

Given that the coding generated by AI needs to be checked and often still contains errors or unnecessary code, claiming that AI is so powerful that there's no need for skills is completely false. If you coding using AI but don't understand the code, it's useless.
