As long as a person is a wage-labor slave, they're poor. Regardless of whether their income is $12k or $120k a year, they still offer their labor to some rich capitalist.

So long as capitalism is the dominant economic, cultural, societal, and political system on this planet, reducing consumption won't become an option. Especially regarding energy, since that's one of the driving forces behind today's capitalism.

@petko Been sailing the seas for around 30 yrs now. Will occasionally support a creator directly, but never corporations. Copyright laws and patents are just ways for the rich to gatekeep access. They should be abolished altogether. I mean, the European colonists also didn't give a fuck about copyright when they traveled across the globe, stealing left and right. And many of today's rich, who are whining about patents and copyright, have built their wealth on past thefts and exploitations to begin with.

But unfortunately, our politicians in the EU aren't chosen by skill, intelligence, or farsighted wisdom, but by their loyalty to the rich caste. Hence, they have no problem sucking up to US billionaires either, even if those billionaires embrace fascism and authoritarianism.

@mossman@social.vivaldi.net My biggest boon with this whole marketing thing about self-learning algorithms is not so much their (often lacking) usefulness. I do understand that there are some aspects like pattern recognition to process vast amounts of data which can be a big help in some fields like law, medicine, etc. The problem we all should have with this corporate-driven marketing slop is the huge amounts of energy it requires. Because nowadays more energy means more fossil emissions. And the last thing we need is even more fossil emissions just so that some corporations and the oligarch owners behind them can make even more money for features no one needs.

Laziness in language usage is one of the bigger problems in today's times. In the first place, calling self-learning algorithms Artificial Intelligences is already wrong since intelligence is a cognitive process that requires to make connections between different pieces of information/knowledge. @hirad@mastodon.hirad.it This does make sense, if you run your service on a single server farm/complex, since they will---no matter how many you add---have a physical limit to how much traffic they can process. But, Mastodon is decentralized, so the traffic and server access is being spread out across many different server farms in different locations. So while your argument definitely holds true in the sense of physical limitation, it's unlikely to occur here, unless one of the instances gets totally overrun without having the capacities to handle all the inflow of new users. But even then, people can simply migrate to other instances to mitigate the limitations. Something they obviously can't do in Elmo's sandbox. @YourGodSatan@evil.social @flup@mastodon.scot

@unnon89@nrw.social Die Blockadehaltung der FDP ändert halt nur nix am Ist-Zustand. Und darauf habe ich mich bezogen (steht auch so geschrieben - lesen hilft). Die Schuld der großen Koalition wird gerne runtergespielt von interessierten Parteien, welche jahrelang Partikularinteressen bedient haben und jetzt so tun, als ob alle Probleme von heut auf gleich gelöst werden könnten. Dann sitzen dieselben Leute in Talkshows oder stehen auf Rednerbühnen, und schwurbeln was von wegen "böses Heizungsgesetz." ~30% der Wähler, laut ÖRR, glauben deren Gesülze und wollen einen der Hauptverursacher Stand heute wiederwählen. Warum? Weil es ein kapitalistischer Zirkus ist, wo die Verursacher von Schaden and der Gemeinschaft nie angeklagt und zur Rechenschaft gezogen werden. Die Leidtragenden dieser Machenschaften werden, wie immer, die Ärmsten und Schwächsten der Gesellschaft sein, weil jetzt alles hopp hopp gehen muss, was logischerweise die Maßnahmen und Kosten drastisch in die Höhe treiben wird. Und natürlich hilft es nicht für die Zukunft, dass notwendige Schritte immer noch verzögert oder nicht unternommen werden wegen der FDP. Das steht aus meiner Warte gar nicht zur Debatte, aber von einem neoliberalen Lobbyverein mit klar rechtsradikalen Tendenzen erwarte ich nicht viel anderes. @Perowinger94@mastodon.social

@Perowinger94@mastodon.social Es liegt mir fern die Rechtsradikalen Schwurbler von der FDP zu verteidigen, aber die Hauptursache für diese ganze Heizungsproblematik haben Union und SPD verursacht in dem diese drei Parteien über ein Jahrzehnt alles in diese Richtung geblockt haben im Auftrage der #FossilLobby (Union) und #Putler (SPD) (höchstwahrscheinlich dasselbe anyway)
