@drsimevans@mastodon.energy It's hard to point to this is a big win though, when German continues to have some of the highest prices for electricity in Europe. When it brings down the monthly household costs, that's when people will start to take notice.
My #BogGarden is nearly complete!!! Got the last layer of peat added today, and as an added bonus I believe there was some live #sphagnum moss growing in the bag (something I wanted to grow here anyway). The first bag of peat had a lot of regular yard moss growing in it so I just put everything on top to see what survives.
Next stop is hitting up local nurseries for #carnivourousplants -- specifically looking for #Sarracenia purpurea and #Drosera rotundifolia.

@Nonilex@masto.ai Would be nice to see the judge hold them in contempt for this. They've had weeks to consider fighting the order, but they wait until the evening before they are required to be in full compliance before saying they might try to do something about it?
The fact that they haven't even begun the removal (and I'm willing to bet they haven't even hired anyone yet) shows an intentional act to disobey a court order -- pretty much the definition of contempt.

@emd@cosocial.ca I haven't heard of this before, but judging by the comments it sounds related to another process you might look at called "permaculture". In this, you select plants that work well together to try and change the immediate climate. For example, in desert regions turning your yard into a small oasis by planting bushes and trees to retain humidity. If nothing else, it's an interesting study of how different plants work together to help each other grow.

Their idea of "safe" is painting the lanes green or in some instances putting the bike lane up on the curb with the sidewalk. They literally just spent years tearing up and rebuilding a street by the college for this project, and put up soft poles in the street to mark the bike lane. Do you feel safer now?

@grammasaurus@mastodon.social @SunnJax@tech.lgbt They *could* still be along the same routes, but I've seen pics of other countries where the bike and pedestrian paths are literally separated from the street by a cement wall. None of this half-assed shit.
In the city, yeah all the paths need to somewhat follow the same route to share intersections and stop lights. In some areas you could do bike paths above or below the street level, but not always practical. And in the country... why are the paths anywhere near the highway???

They're taking an already dangerous situation and giving cyclists a false sense of "security" (I'm safe if I stay in my lane). All this wasted money just to make motorists more frustrated and all they have to show for it is basically a shoulder on the street.

@PhoenixSerenity@beige.party When I took over a chat server years ago, the very first rule I implemented was that nobody was allowed to PM another member without asking first in the public room (or having prior approval, of course). So many people still thank me for what seemed like an obvious bit of courtesy, and despite the rule being posted on the sign-on page I still have to occasionally ban newcomers.
I mean seriously, WTF is wrong with people?

@janamarie I haven't looked into the red-blue swapping, but is this something magic lantern would do? I run it on both my cameras but have barely touched all the features.
For normal shots, can you put an IR filter on the lens and get the camera to react normally again? I have a Ti4 and Ti5 I had considered doing this mod for astrophotography, but never got around to trying it, and I use both cameras for regular photography.

@ManyRoads@mstdn.social Colorado produces a lot of oil so I think that usually holds down our local prices. I suspect the whole nation is going to blow up in the next week or so as supplies run out.
The national average for regular #gas is $4.45. This is the first time I've ever seen our local price exceed the average, I just filled my tank for $4.59/gallon. Note that it was only $3.69 a few days ago as I went to work.

@ManyRoads It affects all kernels back to at least 4.10, released in 2017. Hard to say if anyone else ever found it, but it's just the whole manner in which this was announced that is really annoying a lot of people. Zero of the major distros like Redhat or Debian received any notice about it, so people are pissed.
And I don't think it's actually patched yet. There are mitigations in place that disable crypto features which relied on this mod, but I haven't seen any new kernels yet.

@HailsandAles Pro tip -- Many email services let you use a sub account with a "+" mark (some use a period instead). For example: shdwdrgn+amazon@mymail.xxx. The emails will still arrive in your mailbox if you need to receive some specific detail like an access key, but now you can see who sold your information, and you can tell your email program to block this specific address as spam without losing your entire mailbox.

@warandpeas@mastodon.social For me it depends greatly on the density of the text. If I can read the single panel on my desktop screen then that saves my fingers from mouse clicks.
The most frustrating thing is artists who don't use the same size text in each frame. Going from one panel to the next, I end up straining my eyes trying to read the tiny text without realizing it. Fortunately War&Peas doesn't seem to have this problem, you are largely consistent and my eyes thank you.

@jeffowski Beginning to suspect I'm on the spectrum, which has caused me to re-evaluate a number of things about my life. One such thing is whenever anyone asks me a blindingly stupid question, I immediately ignore the obvious (and correct) answer because I can't imagine why they'd be asking something so obvious and my brain locks down fumbling for any other possible solution.
It's taken me half a century to realize that yes, that obvious answer really is the correct one for their stupid question.

@CriticalSilence On my weather stations, I can wake up, collect sensors, send over MQTT, and go back to sleep in about 2 seconds. Under solar power, speed is absolutely critical. I use the smaller 14500 LiPo batteries which fit in a standard AA socket, and collect data every 5 minutes. These batteries can run for nearly a week without recharging, so even cloudy days provide enough energy to keep them level.

Before deepsleep set WiFi.persistent, WiFi.disconnect, WiFi.forceSleepBegin, then WiFi.mode(WIFI_OFF). Anything to ensure the radio is completely off and the previous state was saved. When waking up you can resume the connection to speed it up -- may require the full WiFi.begin(SSID, PASS, config.channel, config.bssid, true) command, but newer libraries may have better memory of this state?
