@luciedigitalni@aus.social The loyalty tax is real. I changed my ISP when I found out they were offering discounts to new sign ups that they would not extend to existing customers. I ask for the same rate as new sign ups, they said 'no' so I left.

While we rightly bang on about how disappointing the uniparty is on pretty much everything, and warn against the siren song of a PHON alternative, we really must hold up the good bits to be celebrated, defended and extended. Legacy systems left to us by prior generations. Almost like giving credit where credit is *due when they don't f*ck things up! While remaining realistic. If Public Health, the PBS, Public Education, libraries, public transport, bike paths, et al did not currently exist there is zero chance the current regime would legislate them into existence. None. Zip. Nada. They would be 'reckless spending'. If a progressive alternative is anything, IMHO, is nothing if it is not optimistic and positive. While being 'Conservative' (in a weird, left handed way) via deterrence to precedent, Rule of Law, and humanitarian principles kind of way. Old fashioned kindness. The 'fair' go, not the 'equal' go. Etc etc.

So, after about 18 months on the public waiting list my number came up!

Today I finally got my dodgy ankle seen to. (Ruptured a ligament about 18 years ago, and found out via MRI there was bits of bone floating around the joint. Hence the pain and reduction in movement).

Ligament repaired, gnarly bits of growth, damaged cartilage and bone shaved away, and a floating chunk of bone removed (pictured).

Should have done this years ago!

HUUUUGE shout out to ACT Health, and the private hospital in Deakin they put me in for the Op and the overnight observation. The surgeon, nurses, everybody is just so kind. ❤

@tillmanreuter@ecoevo.social I beg your pardon. I was not clear. The protocol itself is not inherently resistant. AI agents (I am sure) can be programmed and released. 'Humanity checks' set up by Admins however can prevent AI Agents setting up other AI agents. And slow down humans! Mainly however, the moderation culture of the Fediverse mitigates against the reach these bots will get. Once (if?) detected they can be 'limited' or worse. And if a server becomes notorious for hosting AI agents other servers can defederate - reducing the point of setting up AI agents on Mastodon.

The creep of relentlessly improving AI will render so much of the human content on the internet indistinguishable from AI.

A prediction:

'Verified human' or AI-free platforms will attract a premium. Human made and genuine human-to-human online communications will be prized.

#Mastodon will be rewarded in due course for bucking the #AI trend and remaining resolutely human (less of course the clearly labelled reposting bots. Reposting is not the same as an agentic AI profile freely engaging online).

@Old_IT_geek @davej Am curious about the, 'if a stressed investor sells a rental property the price of rent goes up', argument. My understanding is the price of rent is a factor of supply and demand, not linked to investor costs. And that if an investor sells to a renter and they live in it, while it is true there is one less property available for renting, there is also one less tenant in the market. Therefore the effect is neutral. Likewise if they sell to another investor. No change in the supply/demand equation. Yes?
