I see today the AG is looking for contractors to assess Microsoft's CoPilot to determine whether its genAI features are safe and ready to roll-out across the federal government. Elbows up, right? Everybody knows protecting our sovereignty starts with eliminating skilled public servants and shoveling money at a US broligarch plagiarism machine.

As provincial and federal governments starve the public system it creates strain on the doctors and nurses we depend on. "The prevailing theme was that the [health-care] system is broken," wrote co-author Kerstin de Wit, an emergency physician at Kingston Health Sciences Centre and professor at Queen’s University, who conducted the research with the Network of Canadian Emergency Researchers. It's not broken. Something happening by design cannot be called broken. Various levels...

Sending OC Transpo to field concerns from the ridership is a bit like sending front-line nurses out to ask patients what bothers them about ER visits. Feeding lambs to the wolves. In both cases the problem is political and budgetary. We need a city that is serious about public transportation as much as we need a province that believes in public healthcare. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/oc-transpo-customer-information-session-changes-9.7288513 #Ottawa

RE: https://mstdn.social/@dalfen/117009564902173088 Many governments have succumbed to corporate executive thinking, summarized by this mantra: Act in accordance with how you want things to be, not as they are. You want to be a market leader? Act like a market leader. If something is not real, just make it real through confident insistence and brute force. That's how we got Uber. In 2004 Bush II went on about reality v faith based communities. Reality was the problem. Reality demands fac...

Even on the surface of it, Boy George's new pro-genocide song is terrible. How does the Reggae beat fit with the theme? The forced rhymes, lyrics that are just silly. The IDF-supporting crowd calls it a 'hopeful' song, but everything about it is either attacking or defensive, depending on the verse. Where's the hope? We will dance again, after the enemy is exterminated? Is that hope? Mostly though, the song just drones on and on. It's empty - starts nowhere, goes nowhere. G...

US still carrying on about smoke from Canadian wildfires when half their own damn country is also on fire, along with Europe and Siberia, all caused by climate change of which they are a leader in causing and protecting the industry. From a rhetoric perspective, this kind of manipulation via redirection is very common in politics and business circles. Rather similar to projection, also similar to false flag, the guilty trying to make it look like they're on the high road. It's transpar...

CBC headline: "Canada celebrates long-awaited opening of Gordie Howe bridge without U.S." We do? This is an event worthy of a national celebration? Will there be Snowbird flyovers and fireworks? I feel bad for Gordie Howe, having his name dragged into this. Should be renamed to "Capitulation Bridge."

I see CTV is airing live coverage of the Gordie Howe bridge opening, paid for by Canada used as extortion by the US. They do nothing, pay nothing and end up owning half of it. This is why I can't be a politician. If I were PM I would have ordered the demolition of the Canadian side and just left the US side dangling over the water.

Last I checked, hacking is a criminal offense. OpenAI says their bot doing crimes was an "eye-opener." So glad OpenAI was able to enjoy a learning experience. One thing I haven't heard yet is when they'll be charged. I see this is a test of people's seriousness here. Allowing them to gleefully shrug it off is a dangerous precedent. Meanwhile everybody's acting like it was some mysterious third party: A government spokesperson said the UK's AI Security Institute...

Random brain dump. I don't know if a talking points memo went out or something, but I keep seeing the same Liberal Party argument popping up everywhere and it's freaky. "Canada accounts for less than 2% of global carbon emissions, so don't blame us for climate change." This is absolutely true. So far, we haven't had much of a direct hand in actually lighting the match that burns the boreal forests. However, set your frame around gun control. Guns don't pull thei...

Sorry, but what exactly are the tools Canada has at our disposal that would prevent wildfires in the world's largest stretch of pristine boreal forest during a global climate emergency? Raking? Watering them daily so they're not so dry? Cutting them all down and paving over everything? Praying to Jesus? End global warming? Clearly you shutting the fuck up and stop burning so much oil isn't on the table.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@br00t4c/116918746593674406 Even a few Liberal party supporters I know have been scratching their head over Carney seeming to cheer on Trump's unjust, unprovoked and illegal war against Iran. But we've been told the reason a thousand times. The Liberal government wants Canada to be an 'energy superpower'. A good number of us progressives who voted for that were naively hoping that would mean a serious transition to electric, a national grid, investme...
