Last I checked, hacking is a criminal offense. OpenAI says their bot doing crimes was an "eye-opener." So glad OpenAI was able to enjoy a learning experience. One thing I haven't heard yet is when they'll be charged. I see this is a test of people's seriousness here. Allowing them to gleefully shrug it off is a dangerous precedent. Meanwhile everybody's acting like it was some mysterious third party: A government spokesperson said the UK's AI Security Institute was studying the behaviour from the AI system seen in the incident and was continuing to work with OpenAI and other labs to improve safeguards. Hint to the UK: You improve safeguards by coming down hard on OpenAI. Turn them into an example of what happens when you're flippant and negligent and feeling too clever to follow norms.
