  Classic #EasternEurope experience at a Slovenian mountain hut. - Me: Dober dan, erm… English/Deutsch? - Personnel: says something inconclusive (we are 1km from the Austrian border, a few km from the international tourist ghetto of Bled) - Can I stay one night? - (Something leaning towards no) - Can I pitch a tent then? - Something uncertain/no, struggles to explain. Calls someone on the phone. And then asks if I need an invoice and if not, whether I can pay cash, discounted 20€ per night :)

  Another #gardening experiment that's going well: we collected 3 ginkgo seeds last autumn, let them dry, put them in pots and kept outside for the winter for cold exposure, but did not sprout during the summer, so I put them in the ground in a random spot in the garden. Few weeks ago I found 2 seedlings already 20cm tall among a dense growth of other plants! Now we need to figure out where to put a tree that can grow 40 meters tall in a 100m2 garden :D #ginkgo #GinkgoBiloba

  So we are planning a bike vacation roughly following the coast between Marseille and Valencia in Sept/Oct. The challenge is, we want to get there by train, not necessarily on the direct route, possibly doing some sections by bike. One idea is to take a night train from Budapest/Vienna to Zürich, ride a day or two in Switzerland (e.g to Basel) and take a train to Avignon or Marseille. Any suggestions? The links between Zürich and the French coast don't seem to be amazing. #trains #bike...

  New gardening experiment: took a few cuttings from the fig tree my wife grew up under (the house will be sold soon) and will try to get them grow roots in water. Wish them good luck!   Started cooking up a bikepacking plan for early May, planning to go South to catch the early summer there. And because MÁV has been fixing the direct line to Budapest-Ljubljana line for 2 years, I'm looking at Italy. Train prices are ridiculous already with Budapest-Venice being ~180 EUR (w/o bike, 1 change, 10:30). Or I can take a Flixbus for ~40 EUR (incl. bike, direct, 10:00). I guess, that sadly is a no brainer. #trains #bikepacking
