Started cooking up a bikepacking plan for early May, planning to go South to catch the early summer there. And because MÁV has been fixing the direct line to Budapest-Ljubljana line for 2 years, I'm looking at Italy.
Train prices are ridiculous already with Budapest-Venice being ~180 EUR (w/o bike, 1 change, 10:30).
Or I can take a Flixbus for ~40 EUR (incl. bike, direct, 10:00).
I guess, that sadly is a no brainer.

Out of curiosity, I also checked flight prices. Without bike and luggage, I could get to Venice for 18 EUR (one-way, non-stop, 1:25). This world is backwards :(

@mrc I did overnighter this weekend and have to say that it is already quite doable here in CZ. Maybe if you want to try South Moravia and northern Austria the train connection is quite a bit better.
