Another #gardening experiment that&#39;s going well: we collected 3 ginkgo seeds last autumn, let them dry, put them in pots and kept outside for the winter for cold exposure, but did not sprout during the summer, so I put them in the ground in a random spot in the garden. Few weeks ago I found 2 seedlings already 20cm tall among a dense growth of other plants! Now we need to figure out where to put a tree that can grow 40 meters tall in a 100m2 garden :D #ginkgo #GinkgoBiloba

That’s the mother ginkgo by the way. Does not look *that* old for bearing fruit.

@mrc@mastodon.berlin I would put them in pots and wait till you know if they are male or female. Female trees produce the fruits that stink horribly 😬 And not to be even more of a party pooper, but it's also important to keep in mind that ginko has basically zero environmental value (compared to other trees), the tree is toxic to many/most insects... (That's partly why decades ago people thought it's great for cities, but we should learn from their mistakes.)

@mrc@mastodon.berlin there is one in a town near me in a garden much smaller than that its huge, much taller than the house. I hunted it out when I spotted the leaves on the pavement the other side of the terrace to the garden
