  New: Exit 2 at Richmond Station in Melbourne will now be open from first train to last train, in addition to Exit 1 (Swan St). No more closing at 7.30pm on weekdays and all weekends.

  If you’ve ever wanted a consistent train journey from Melbourne’s north to the South-East – the City Loop Reconfiguration project is what would deliver that in multiple ways. Here’s a mockup I’ve put together of how it would look on the map, if implemented around 2035. For many people, this would mean you could catch a train to and from a City Loop station at any time of day rather than being stuck in the lunchtime reversal.

  I can’t be the only one that’s had two “Hide My Email” choices on about 59% of email forms for the past couple of years? The second one launches the Hide My Email feature, the first one just inserts the string “Hide My Email” into the field.

  Someone sent me a link - in Facebook Messenger - to a Facebook Reel. And when tapped, I kid you not - this is the exact screen I’m presented with. The Facebook ecosystem must be an absolute nightmare to maintain internally.

  Southern Cross new PIDs: never thought I’d see the day. Rolled out to 60% of screens today, more on the way. A few bugs (no next City Loop) and UI challenges, but overall as good or better than most stations in Melbourne.

  Interesting data from Melbourne’s free train travel experiment April 2026 vs March 2026 on Melbourne Metro trains: 👔 Weekdays: up 4.4% 🕶️ Weekends: up 38% Some of this will be due to school holidays. Some may be due to business passengers being less price sensitive than leisure passengers. Bigger leaps year on year, but without larger network year on year trends, harder to put that in context.

  Disappointing to see brand new junctions look like this in 2026 in Australia. Small access street (50km/h) for a brand new estate meeting an 80km/h road. Weird footpath layout, high speed turning radius for vehicles, and an obvious layout (images 3-4) that wouldn't even need much change or compromise – but would be so much safer for all. And it's not just here - this could be anywhere. Curious how these sorts of poor design get implemented when there's so much best prac...

  When the first option for a city event is “here are extensive details about how to drive and park at our location” and the public transport is barely an afterthought below that - it’s more telling than many orgs realise. Says me, reading 31 lines on a mobile phone screen about how to park when attending the Victorian Government Budget Lockup, followed by a combined 5 lines of info for public transport, taxi, and (also car) drop-offs.

  Melton Line electrification: next stages of planning and design announced. What that MIGHT look like. 1. Today – Melton is served only by regional V/Line trains. Busy, overcrowded, not suitable for what is effectively now a suburban area 2. Electrification of Melton Line and creation of Airport Line. Both plan to use the Metro Tunnel, becoming three branches of the same line 3. Potential additional stations along the route: Thornhill Park and Mt Atkinston proposed and supported by many locals

  I hadn’t yet come across the Anker Nano for international travel – and Dan’s right, it’s much smaller than what has become a fairly standard sized brick for international plugs + USB-C from lots of brands.   Flow chart I'm working with to prioritise content on https://expresstransit.com Common feedback that Apple Wallet Transit Cards are great (they are) and maybe equally as good as contactless debit/credit card with Apple Pay. Which is true once are setup. But for a visitor to a city they still require one more question: how much money add or what type of pass) that contactless travel takes away (just tap). Some way to go to make complexity feel intuitive, but I think we're getting ther...

But absolutely there's some details I need to ensure are clear and accurate on the next pass. Noted, thank you. I couldn’t find any real indication that open loop payments are being worked on or even meaningfully put on a timeline for contactless debit/credit. Is that the case on the ground? One of the few comparable regions not even having it on the 2-3 year plan.

  I love Express Mode, especially when visiting a new city and I can just tap to ride the metro, bus or tram. In general, cities aren't very proactive at advertising when it's supported. Ads might say you can 'tap and ride' or use contactless, but rarely mention Express Mode (formerly Express Transit Mode).
