  The European government has approved new legislation that makes it easier for consumers to keep their devices working longer. Manufacturers must soon offer better repair options for consumers and repair shops. This includes everything from washing machines and vacuums to tablets and smartphones. Under this new rule, if you repair instead of replace, you may qualify for an extra year of warranty!   Replaceable batteries are not a fantasy, companies just needed a legal shove. EU rules are pushing Nintendo and Amazon toward more repairable devices, from Switch hardware with replaceable batteries to signs of Kindle battery replacement kits and guides. That does not mean the fight is over. Parts pairing, lockouts, and loopholes are still very real. But every replaceable battery is one more crack in the throwaway tech model.
