The Fairbuds XL just became the first headphones to earn a 10/10 repairability score on our new headphone scorecard! Replaceable battery. Replaceable ear pads. Modular design. Actual repair manuals. This is what headphones look like when they’re built to last instead of built for the landfill. https://www.ifixit.com/News/117206/were-now-scoring-wireless-headphones-for-repairability — #iFixit #RightoRepair #FixTheWorld

@iFixit@mastodon.social Just out of interest, have you tested AIAIAI audio?

@iFixit@mastodon.social But they are called 'buds'? How large will Fairphone's full-size headphones be?

@iFixit@mastodon.social it will soon be time to start rating phones for how easily they accept #customROM (s) given #google (s) intent to lock down third party app stores for android like #fdroid ... this is a real "repair" situation for many people.

@iFixit@mastodon.social actually quality devices from Sennheiser and the like have spareparts like forever. Where is the news?

  • @iFixit@mastodon.social Worldwide partner is Amazon which sells them for US$ 229.99, delivery to Salem, Oregon: tomorrow. https://www.amazon.com/Fairphone-Headphones-Cancelling-Weatherproof-Replaceable/dp/B0G3BBB581/ref=dp_prsubs_d_sccl_1/134-9797055-8779513?pd_rd_w=cTO7t&content-id=amzn1.sym.a1c22caf-2d4a-4c58-b920-210b8f6b9234&pf_rd_p=a1c22caf-2d4a-4c58-b920-210b8f6b9234&pf_rd_r=WVCNEG9G9FV1131HY1CZ&pd_rd_wg=6BaBd&pd_rd_r=9c06aec0-1fe0-45e3-8c4c-24780f4fc218&pd_rd_i=B0G3BBB581&th=1 Doesn't look like Amazon carries the phones which may not be built/designed for the US market?

  • @iFixit@mastodon.social 10/10 is incredible — this is what the right-to-repair movement looks like in practice! More brands need to follow this blueprint. Congrats to Fairbuds!

  • @iFixit@mastodon.social nice! I literally just had to go looking for new covers for my headphones because the plastic ones disintegrated, so this is relevant to me.

@iFixit@mastodon.social this is relevant to my interests, as my noise-cancelling headphones last about six months before developing a fault or breaking apart

@iFixit@mastodon.social you could have tested the original made by repeat.audio, strikingly similar, but a few years earlier.

@iFixit@mastodon.social im gonna get as much life as i can trying to maintain what ive got before considering these. But, if i fail in that these will likely be good! ..unless they dont do their upgrades to it backwards compatible, if thats the case then the obsolesence thing is still there and i probably wouldnt bother -- i already generally manage to keep things over 10 years when upgrades can be reasonably considered (except stupid smartphones 👹👹👹) something like these, if they provide decent upgraded parts in 10 years from release that could easily mean for me a 20 year product 🙌 i dont have confidence in Fairphone to deliver that though yet 🫠
