Hrm. Ok I'm making a dungeon crawler with a very framed-in view with a thick HUD with lots of big character portraits and, is there some way of getting vector art to look pleasingly crunchy? so it works alongside a crunched-up viewport? Or do I embrace high-res HUD to create aesthetic distance?

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@glassbottommeg/117174027124139342 HAH. Ok, so fun thread blah, but in the process of math'ing out my UI file dimensions, I realized that at 1080, with my chunk factor: the reason that factor looks "right" is because that's functionally 640px. The actual res is 640x360 cus wide-screen but still. It's a 640x480 dungeon crawler. RAD!

Momentarily despaired that finding pixel art sets n stuff was impossible on the modern internet, since even itch.io has tons of GenAI, then discovered there's just a no-AI tag you can use that artists throw on there, where fucking around and lying on that is punished with a store ban, and gosh! YAY

Finally building a UI pipeline that genuinely leverages Affinity's weird behavior where you can open Design files in Photo. (make the files as transparent Design files, do all work in Pixel layers via Photo, then do final export setup back in Design because of the Slice-based workflow Photo lacks)

Ok Godot people, so I got a named node dingus here, in the world. This code over here is in an Auto, meaning, auto-spawned node. It can't find the named thingy. Why? Does a named node have to be in the same "hierarchy"? And the Autos are separate so this doesn't work? How should Autos find nodes?

Me, constantly, loudly: "and remember your local library has games and movies too!" Me, quietly: "except mine, of course, we had those at my old larger branch, but now I'm in a tiny town, only a tiny selection 😭" "Wait I can put a hold on games and they just get sent here?"

So I'm trying to go back and add sounds, and it turns out this code is always generating lateral force, I think? But it's balanced by the lateral forces by the other wheels or... something? Uh Hmmm. Hmmm. Hmmm yep everything's fine in here.

Made sense of yet another part of The Holy Tomes: https://asawicki.info/Mirror/Car%20Physics%20for%20Games/Car%20Physics%20for%20Games.html Got stuck figuring out what slip ratio units were. Like great, zero to one, of... what. Ah. Load. Scalar x load force from vehicle weight share on wheel = max load. Bam. This ONE fuckin website is the only good ref 😭

If the team that made a game gets immediately laid off it's perfectly legal to pirate it Look I don't make game law but I do fancy myself something of an expert on this so you can definitely steal the pirate game whose devs got laid off and they didn't even let em have a real launch party its legal

Folks struggling to make it as indies should probably read this: https://klangmag.co/lifers-dayjobbers-and-the-independently-wealthy-a-letter-to-a-former-student/ Also he only mentions rich kids and day jobbers, but there's also "has a spouse with a good job", "their parent died and left them just enough to get ahead" and "managed to pay off house so don't have rent"

So been looking at the "code" from uhh, a tool that a lot of you are talking about, and my primary issue with using vibe coded tooling at this point is that the "code" in them is impossible to read, so they're impossible to support You often need to update tools yourself across engine versions/etc

Nostalgic games about working at a convenience store in a different country with a (mostly) functioning economy are DEFINITELY a recession indicator But also this does look cozy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft0IuX3sxNI (though the devs are Japanese so iunno maybe just "nostalgia for what we thought was a shitty job but now Oh No" in general as a recession indicator)

Gasp. Truly shocking. Who could have forseen this. https://english.elpais.com/health/2026-02-04/groundbreaking-study-finds-no-evidence-that-trans-athletes-are-a-threat-to-womens-sports.html It's meta-analysis, but still, we're unlikely to get a better study operating within ethical boundaries shy of simply getting way more trans women into sport

Probably silly to worry over, but what time of year is the "nicest" time for knocking back a spider's webs? (mostly I try to leave em be, but I kinda need to knock 'em back at some point or they tend to take over corners/etc)

more indie game devs should make dungeon crawlers like Wizardry 8 and Ultima Underworld It's a fantastic business idea, and it would make me, personally, very happy You'd sell tens of copies!

So #Linux gamers, do you even care about whether a game lists "Linux support" in general terms anymore? Or do you just scroll down on Steam, find the #SteamDeck green check, and that tells you if it works on Proton, and- well there you go that's all you need, whether you're gonna game on the Deck specifically or not
