  @sidereal some folks i know set up an experimental network during helene using meshtastic with freetak to create a logistics map of things like aid drop-off points, obstacles in the road, etc. Said it seemed promising but they ran into a lot of limitations due to meshtastic technical issues, and also it wasn't really feasible to train people to use it *during* a disaster relief situation. This is definitely something we've been brainstorming, looking for reasons that average people would find compelling to learn to use the network day-to-day, so people will be already trained and ready to go when a disaster hits. It's another point where i think #Reticulum has more potential; being an entire networking protocol it can be contorted and levereged for far more different types of usecases, so presumably it's just a matter of building...

If you're talking about more centralized organizations that want to control their own comms infrastructure, then yeah a trusted service like mattermost on that organization is definitely a good solution, so long as there's a plan for a subpeona in place and/or warrent canary.   @JulianOliver oh yeah you're totally right about MM! A lot of orgs i'm involved in use Signal just bc a trustless service is better for those particular cases, and many things about it, especially the lack of channels, are definitely a headache. A mattermost-like interface would certainly be better. Personally I just desperately want a proper FOSS, e2e, trustless chat application with the features/interface of mattermost or Element 😭
