  Tried to boot the #guix installer on my server. It hangs at establishing network connectivity. If I switch to a different vt and look at ip addresses it has both a valid v4 and v6 address... It's on a network where http requires a proxy, does it try to check internet access via http? It has no option to set a proxy in the installer? Any guix friends have suggestions?

  Proposal... The US should overhaul the K-12 public school system to make it K-10 and give everyone 4 years of free tuition at local community colleges after 10th. Liberate the 16 year olds to have more control over their educational path, give them time to try out different topics for a bachelors major, and dramatically reduce cost for a bachelors degree. Plus the variety of things you can take is just dramatically higher.

If the keeper is partially in and out of the box and the ball may be in or out, what are the conditions that qualify it as a handball when the keeper handles it. I presume ball and keeper entirely out of the box, or both entirely in the box are clear, where does the threshold lie?

  I've been having this same issue with a memory leak on my laptop, but last night when I logged out of X the leak went away! So it's not a kernel thing I guess, or it's kernel memory that the Wayland server is demanding/leaking or something... So there's a chance I could get rid of this issue with an upgrade. I just upgraded debian, so I guess it's time to reboot and see what's up.

  So last night the PUSD board held an emergency session to discuss them being sued for Brown act violations (basically back room dealing rather than transparent discussions in public meetings). We have all these procedural requirements because electing 7 people to decide how schools should be handled is an obviously stupid idea to everyone especially when they go and decide to close some of them for their own personal reasons or to give favors to friends or whatever.

  If you've been using #openwrt for decades like I have, you'll know that the table of hardware was always very very slow. Well in the last few days, a volunteer who had built a vastly faster interactive table of hardware had his interactive table merged to the openwrt site as official.   After all that I wanted to listen to Divine Ellison on Love a Brother Radio, and was getting major loading and stuttering... No-one else reported issues, so I fired up mtr and find that lax-b23-link.ip.twelve99.net has 0 packet loss, and then everything after the next hop lax-bb2-link.ip.twelve99.net has notable packet loss, with 16% packet loss to the LABR server. So it seems like it's not a problem with my equipment but I do have a problem with global connectivity too... 😠

  #guix friends dont I remember that guix shoves the config and channels file into the store and theyre accessible as symlinks somewhere? ive got a laptop I installed a while ago and it doesn't have an /etc/config.scm I want to reconfigure it but I want the config as a baseline to edit.

  I'm 4 hours into doing a #guix pull... its crashed multiple times I think either from out of memory or gnome going to sleep mid pull, along with all the debugging I had to do because I had some incompatible channel settings... after rebooting and killing X I think this time it'll work. then once the pull is over I can reconfigure the OS... all this is on a Chromebook like Celeron from 2018 with 4GB of RAM. Hopefully the reconfigure works and I can get some zram on here.

  At an air bnb in the mountains. i insisted there was something wrong with the gas stove. found that every smoke + CO detector in the house had been permanently disabled. The owner is actually responsive and drove out to deliver two CO+smoke detectors. She called the gas company who drove out... sniffer test on both the Wolf Range and the new water heater... wolf range had a significant gas leak and set off the sniffer right away. water heater had a small leak and was easily fixed with tightening

  Well after negotiating with USC's IT group, my wife has finally been given the definitive answer that even if they wanted to they couldn't enable her to use Google Takeout on the shared drives where all her lab data is stored, as it just doesn't work on shared drives. So after all that stuff we went through to design an alternative way to back up almost 2 decades of data, she's back to square one. Putting your data in Google Drive is pretty much a one-way operatio...
