Speaking of institutional failure, the Pasadena Unified School District is considering the closing of a number of schools. They've outsourced analysis of this for $250,000 to some bullshit analyst group that specializes in School closures. One of the options that seems to be very much on the table is the closure of my kid school, which according to the bullshit analysis, should save about $1.9 million per year, maybe. The problem that the district has is something like a $35 million per year

shortfall. So, closing this school is complete, performative bullshit. Looking through the budget published by PUSD on their website, it seems very clear that. They have to spend something like $150 million a year on restricted students. That is to say, students where the money must be used for their needs only primarily special ed and students that don't speak English and who knows what else. But the revenues are like $70M, half of what's needed.
