Well after negotiating with USC's IT group, my wife has finally been given the definitive answer that even if they wanted to they couldn't enable her to use Google Takeout on the shared drives where all her lab data is stored, as it just doesn't work on shared drives. So after all that stuff we went through to design an alternative way to back up almost 2 decades of data, she's back to square one. Putting your data in Google Drive is pretty much a one-way operation. Don't do it!

    I personally think the solution is going to wind up being running rclone for days and days at whatever limited rate it can go, get all the files off... backed up to our second internal hard drive, and to the external drive, and then delete the shared drives. Fuck all this bullshit. Most likely Nextcloud is gonna be the solution.
