  Good morning Fedi friends, I have been feeling a rising anxiety over the state of the open web and the fediverse - after seeing efforts by politicians all over the world (in Europe too!) to introduce age verification laws for social media.   The following thought isn’t original - I’ve read echos or this on here and happy to edit to credit the source. IMHO the most serious threat to the open social web is corporate capture. I’ve seen examples up close of C-suite types driven by greed and power, who are exhibiting grossly unethical behavior. Can’t disclose specifics because people on the sidelines shared info on background. Not sure what to do, I’m just really worried, that’s all. We are at a pivotal point and can’t mess this up #EEE

  #3GoodThings from yesterday 📡 I successfully carried out my first #mesh experiment - communicating with my friend @stereo@freiburg.social in Germany... some 400km away!!! It only took 6 hops - including the iconic Jungfraujoch radio relay station 🍀 I found my second 4-leaf clover in a field near a bike track - when I took my little one biking 🐑 on our way home we stumbled upon a flock of sheep - it was fascinating to see a couple of adorable Border Collies in action herding them

  Can we please retire the myth that there is “no engagement” in the Fediverse? Exhibit A: this badge from #Ivory showing the activity in my account over the past 22 hours — 344 notifications (likes, boosts, follows, replies). I was on Twitter 1.0 for 14 years, had 4x as many followers on my personal account and never ever had these many interactions. Why? The damn Big Tech algorithms penalizing my posts whenever I shared links. I LOVE the Fediverse and its chronological feeds ❤️
