Casual reminder that if you need a basic voice training app that * is guaranteed 100% free of any LLM-output * absolutely paranoid about your privacy * runs in any modern browser on any operating system that supports one on any hardware that can display a light web-app fluently * Is 100% free to use * Is AGPL-licensed, with no single person holding sole control over the current state of the code. * Can be downloaded and run locally from a file:/[…]-url Then there is this project of mine, which...

FOR FUCKS SAKE! Stop this nonsense of reimplementing file-open dialogs in your software and use the ones provided by the OS! Those have the bookmarked folders, respect my system’s theme and font-size and are generally far more advanced because they are a major component in a file-browser, but only a minor thing in whatever you are most likely writing!

Looking more for housing in Luxembourg and about the living conditions there and it just really seems to be a horrible hellhole without culture that is too expensive to live in. 😞 Like: We are currently looking at spending up to 3000€ a months of housing and housing related bullshit! And then people have the guts telling you that you at least won’t pay taxes, which isn’t even true, but in any case, all you end up doing is working for some fucking corporate ass landlord that takes over half of...

There needs to be a new salary index: Purchasing Power adjusted Net Salary after Housing and Healthcare (PPNSHH) That is, how much stuff can you actually buy after paying for housing and healthcare. And yes, there are differences in how nice apartments are and how good a health insurance is, but at the end of the day the difference in housing between 30 m² and 100 m² still seems to be far less relevant than how fucking bad of a job governments and municipalities have made at...

This section from the second book of the inheritance cycle (#Eragon), has probably shaped my world-view to a very disproportional amount and I still agree with almost all of it. (I’ve had to learn that there are people who know that they are evil and choose to be evil regardless, but that is also my primary disagreement.) Transcript of the relevant part (Eragon was asked by his teacher what the most important tool of the mind is):»Weisheit«, erklärte er schließlich. »Weisheit ist das wichtigste...

Leaving hackalot. Notice that my phone is not in my handbag... Upon request, Senna calls me and the phone rings from very close. Me: confused Senna: "pockets!" I guess it really goes to show how much I'm used to not having them anymore. 😅

Here is the deal: If you want to dogpile on me in the name of spreading a fascist talking point (like the anti-Jewish conspiracy theory that Jews are responsible for Israel’s crimes, including by suggesting that condemnations of that genocidal ethnostate are anti-Jewish!), I will not be shamed into silence but name and shame you! I sometimes see people complaining about harassment on Fedi without providing any concrete examples, which makes it hard to develop an opinion on. I will not do that....

Okay, so @Moire@mastodon.social felt the need to respond and the block me so, that I couldn’t directly respond to said post. Well, here it is:Oh really? You want to compare Israel in 2026 to Nazi-Germany that in 1944 had invaded Poland (1939), Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and France (1940), as well as Yugoslavia, Greece, and the Soviet Union (1941) with millions of dead people, gased jews and endless massacres? Dumb, stupid antisemite! And this is what was meant to be my...

From earlier today/(chronologically yesterday): @sofie@blahaj.zone: “You are slower than a snail.” Me: “Well, I’m still faster than the Ruzzian military in Ukraine.” Sofie: “That depends on what.” Me: “Hey!” Sofie: “Like at loosing people they are faster than you.”

Okay, it looks like I will actually get that job offer in Luxemburg and they were willing to increase the gross starting salary (I hinted at 15K more, they now offered 5K more, indicating that what I indicated was definitely outside the budget, which I guess is fair, there was definitely a negotiation buffer in there). Technically they have not made an offer yet, but they might do so today and I was explicitly their number 1 candidate…

In the end the new #Datenschleuder made it here, and yeah, the cover looks the way how others have posted and indeed has the completely unacceptable sexist message on it, basically saying that only a dead man is a good man. That’s the direct implication, there is no other way to read this! As I’ve said before: Imagine this the other way around! You’d have to go to ultra-fringe incels to see this about women. But somehow this is supposedly okay in club whose charta has always condemned all forms...

The one gaming youtuber I regularly watch is #Perun (of weekly-hour-long-powerpoint-presentation-on-defense-economics fame), not least because of gems like this one:Which means we need a plan. And what better way to present the plan for the first phase of our operation than using a medium custom designed for the tradition we’ve already developed of getting around bureaucratic hurdles, making things go fast, and reflecting budget constraints? Let’s break out the Powerpoint quickly. [Interrupts...

If I get that job in Luxemburg it would be kinda a case of “we read your PhD thesis and designed a position specifically for you”, except that it’s 60% in office in fucking Luxemburg with a salary that might, after adjusting it for housing prices, be worse than a certain teaching position in Essen, which would at least in a major metropolitan region from which getting to NL would me much faster…

Because someone posted a bad flirt attempt, I was looking something up on German Wikipedia and found this interesting anecdote: During WW2 a lot of American soldiers were stationed in the UK (considering they were the good guys during that time, I’ll refrain from derogatory terms for them in this post), and ran into an interesting situation with British women: Some researcher had identified that flirting worked in 30 levels of escalation on both sides, but there was a very significant differen...

The hiring manager from the place in Luxemburg wrote me that she wants another short 5 minute phone call. So at least I did well enough to not be immediately rejected… I have a feeling this might actually work, in part because I still doubt that they can find someone who is a better match for the position than me… 🤔

Well, I at least got something done last night: I moved the remote-control of transsend (my slideshow software) to use websockets instead of POST+SSE, and used the opportunity to also add support for transmitting the cursor position, so I can now give a remote presentation and actually point at stuff. You can see a demo here. (External link, because videos tend to be too large to post here.) Summary of the video: I have one browser-window in which the side is open in teaching mode, three wind...

When you get a driver’s license in Germany, one requirement is that you go through a first aid course. The notion being that a random stranger that has received an afternoon of training and is there at the moment an injury occurs is often going to be of more help than a trauma physician that needs 20 minutes to arrive, after which the victim might already be dead. I think everyone understands that concept intuitively. When people go through hard times, for example with depression, in many case...

So one thing that happened in that job interview I had on Tuesday was that I wanted some clarification on that company also working in the defense space and I phrased it like I normally do (roughly paraphrased):When it comes to killing Russians in Ukraine, I am absolutely your person, but I draw the line at murdering children in Palestine, Lebanon or Iran.(I’ll remark here that I use “killing” and “murdering” very deliberately in that sentence: When I say “murder” I mean what German law calls “M...

#Math #Exercise: Instead of Sleeping, Fiona spend her night sewing the upper part of her new dress, after doing so she is 2.80 m × 1.50 m of usable fabric left for the skirt. The waist-cicumference of the top (that has to be met by the skirt) is 90 cm and the desired length is from the waist to the bottom is 85 cm. (Assume seaming-allowance of 0.) What is the maximum curvature she can achieve, assuming that she cuts pannels and arranges them to create a sim...

The housing market in Luxemburg is so fucked! Search parameters: ≥ 60 m² ≥ 2 Bedrooms Basically: Don’t expect to find anything meaningfully under 2000€/month. (Except for a scam site.)

Finally done! I think this is the most complex dress I’ve ever made, in that it consists of a figure hugging top with slim sleeves, a skirt made out of six panels and most notably two very deep pockets (I managed to put a 2l cola bottle into one!). I’ve made skirts with pockets before, but this is the first dress and I’ll say that I didn’t exactly enjoy the experience of sewing them in, and that there are things I could have done better, but for the time being they are still going to be quite...
