Because someone posted a bad flirt attempt, I was looking something up on German Wikipedia and found this interesting anecdote: During WW2 a lot of American soldiers were stationed in the UK (considering they were the good guys during that time, I’ll refrain from derogatory terms for them in this post), and ran into an interesting situation with British women: Some researcher had identified that flirting worked in 30 levels of escalation on both sides, but there was a very significant difference for where they placed kissing: For the Americans it was step 5, for the British step 25. So if a woman was willing to kiss, it didn’t take all that much more before she was willing to have sex. Which appeared as extremely slutty behavior to the Americans. But in the other direction the British women were describing the Americans as extremely pushy. Without commenting on whether the times’ perception of slutty behavior, I guess the concept still makes a lot of sense in modern life and could maybe also explain some of the notions about the behavior between men and women in straight dating; of course there won't be as much of a cultural difference, but I feel the concept sounds relatable… I mean, for me cuddling is basically the kind of thing I’d do with most people to whom I’m somewhat attracted (it’s perfectly okay to call me a cuddleslut); but then kissing is exclusive to my relationship, at least for the time being; I know that I’m a bit unusual there, which is to be expected, I’m a gay trans woman after all, but if I look back to before transition, I think this might even explain some of the issues I was having…
