@h3mmy books like “Show Me the Numbers” and “The Visual Display of Quantitative Information” might be good reference texts, if the person doesn’t already have them.

@h3mmy I found that while I have to spend them by the end of the year, I don't have to spend them on something *in* the current year, so I paid the registration fee for conference. I'll be going to next summer. Depends on your workplace's specific policies though

But it is way above their mentality level. rewrites the science of evolution and sex, showing how a band of pioneering, feminist biologists have uncovered the dizzying diversity created by evolution. @h3mmy I'd recommend getting a copy of Caro's "The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York" and read it and/or listen to it. It evocatively distills and explains the political process in which all Public Health agencies and programs are forced to operate in. Understanding the forces at work will make you better at getting programs done.

@h3mmy another I’ll throw out is the Applied Data Science with Python from Coursera, produced by U of Michigan. I did it a while back and found it very useful both for data mining and thinking about data representation https://www.coursera.org/specializations/data-science-python

@h3mmy back when I had these I always LOVED spending mine on museum or related research/cultural experience(s) especially if you’re allowed to spend a certain amount on travel and can stack a few museums in the area. I sometimes had to write a short “justification” email but they always got approved

@h3mmy My suggestion is "Modern Epidemiology" as a hardback. It covers causal analysis, epidemiological methods, statistical methods, has elements of Bayesian methods, terrific references, etc.
