@harrybo@gamerstavern.online Different but same, my 13yr-old had a revelation that she can MAKE stories and characters and they can be about whatever she wants. She immediately got to work writing down ideas and practicing her drawing even more. I was so proud of her - in a world of consumer culture, she figured out that she can create, and I love that.

@harrybo@gamerstavern.online On the other side of the see-saw, I tried going to two gas stations to put air in my tires. I couldn't read the display on the air dispenser as it charged me $1 to do nothing. The Attendants couldn't help. I'm used to doing the usual things like this with my car and even remember when getting air and water at my local 76 was free. I ended up going to the tire place where I bought them. For $10, they filled and tested all 4 and rotated them. They even told me the tie rod u joints were a mess but completely functional. I'm seriously considering getting one of those big air stations that AAA use to reinflate flats rather than the wimpy one I got on Amazon that did nothing. @harrybo@gamerstavern.online I was responsible for getting myself up and off the school. When my electric alarm clock stopped alarming, my da told me he’d buy another if I couldn’t fix it, but I had to try fixing it first. I did fix it, and lots of other things since.

@harrybo@gamerstavern.online my teacher parents gave me a box of batteries wires switches light bulbs metal rods etc and no instructions I played with this so much (but didn’t become an electrical engineer)

@harrybo@gamerstavern.online Making things, too. I taught my kids to sew, spin, knit and crochet. They have sewn, knit and crocheted clothes, toys and blankets, and they alter their own clothes to their liking.

@harrybo@gamerstavern.online Awesome! Excellent parenting. We had a couple of very very old dead laptops at one of the repair cafes. I let some kids borrow a set of screwdrivers and go into them. The way their faces lit up when I said "go for it" "What you mean we can take them apart? We won't break them?" "Nah they're already dead, you can't break them more. If you can get the bits apart I'll tell you what they do. Have fun"

@harrybo@gamerstavern.online Checking in as who once was a kid and fixed my first radio by testing for bad tubes and changed a bad one out for a good one. It was on a shortwave radio and that launched me into not only international broadcasting hobby but on a career with Motorola, which still sends me pension checks. That kid did the right thing. ❤

@harrybo@gamerstavern.online when my ex and I first got together, I spent an afternoon with her daughter, helping her dismantle her iphone to replace its cracked back. I had already ordered a transparent back, so she could put a photo there or whatnot. I laid out all the micro screwdrivers and spudgers on a table and showed her where to begin. In a couple of hours she had dismantled and reassembled it completely on her own, twice. She was so excited she talked about doing replacements as a business...
