@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place Then you realize that "chopping the carrots" has at least 5 different definitions of it, and the recipe doesn't specify any. Next, there are so many ways to heat and boil them in that stew: do you add water, how much oil, too much oil will make them mushy, too few and they stick to the pan. Too hot and they get roasted, not hot enough will blow your electricity bill. No, cooking is JUST LIKE programming: give fucking precise specs.

@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place The best thing about coding is that there are relatively few things you can't simply undo, back out, roll back, etc. The worst thing about cooking is that there is almost nothing you can undo without starting over from the beginning.

@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place 👏At least programmers don't have to put up with wildly unrealistic photos of what the dish ought to look like - - they just get told about some vital requirement when the work is almost finished and which results in "cooking" for a lot longer. Chefs expected to go nuts when things go wrong. Developers not so much.
