@djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place Then you realize that "chopping the carrots" has at least 5 different definitions of it, and the recipe doesn't specify any. Next, there are so many ways to heat and boil them in that stew: do you add water, how much oil, too much oil will make them mushy, too few and they stick to the pan. Too hot and they get roasted, not hot enough will blow your electricity bill. No, cooking is JUST LIKE programming: give fucking precise specs.

@pierstoval@mastodon.social @djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place All my mother' recipes say to add "some" of each ingredient. But that's OK, I grew up eating them so I know what they're supposed to come out like.

@pierstoval@mastodon.social @djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place you don't need to be precise when cooking: Cooking is passion, while baking is precession

@pierstoval@mastodon.social @djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place And in the end it boils down to "fuck around and find out". It'll work out somehow. Whether that was 2 or 3 cups of wine or 125 or 143g of sugar is not really relevand. Even reacing an egg with some starch and sour cream works in some recipes. In others it definitely wouldn't. But I asume THAT is senior level.... Knowing where shortcuts are OK and where they definitely are not...

@pierstoval@mastodon.social @djlink@mastodon.gamedev.place And then your wife announces she's doing keto and carrots = carbs. It's not carrots 2.0 you need to worry about; it's eater 2.0.
