Do people who are losing their absolute shit over Elliot Page being Achilles "just because of accuracy" know that in mythology Achilles was raised disguised as a girl among women to avoid going to war?... #mythology #Odyssey #storytelling #ChillTheHellOut

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social They probably don't know (especially because that's not in the Iliad), and also "just because of accuracy" is pretty clearly a thin cover for transphobia

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social I don't think it's worth taking these people seriously. Answering "just fuck off already" should be plenty. I for one look forward seeing Elliot Page all muscled up murdering Trojans.

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social Personally, I don't really care who the actor is unless they're a bad actor. Or unless they're a bad person, but I feel like that statement is a whole other can of worms.

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social In Plato's Symposium they debate if Achilles was top or bottom

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social oh it doesn't matter. these people didn't raise a fuss when a white guy voiced apu in the simpsons, they do not give a shit about accuracy, only about promoting bigot values

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social I'm concerned about the historical accuracy of Elliot Page portraying Achilles because sources say Achilles was the son of the divine, immortal sea nymph Thetis and born in Phthia, Thessaly. While Page's Mom being a teacher means divine levels of patience and wisdom, he was born in Halifax, Canada, not Greece.

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social Should it be exactly what American actors are doing there? Only Greeks should be acting.

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social Accuracy???? Achilles was the child of a sea spirit who was (mostly) invulnerable because he was dipped in the river that leads to the underworld. He was educated by a centaur. This is not a documentary.

  • @TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social I am failing to see why anyone should care except for Elliot Page. I know it's awesome that trans folks are getting good roles, but also, the president is a pedo and is trying to blow up the world and destroy the united states, so I guess all of this nonsense fuckery can piss off while the rest of the world figures out how to survive the coming catastrophic chaos.

@TarkabarkaHolgy@ohai.social I mean, Achilles dies at the end of The Illiad, so he's not even IN The Odyssey, if we want to be accurate. (Don't get me wrong - I'm 100% supportive of this casting, just pointing out more of the neverending supply of bullshit spewed from the mouths of people disguising prejudice and hate with a desire for "accuracy".)
