@jenbanim You were running a single pihole, you deserve it. Those should be ran with secondary backup server.

@jenbanim @kit me, but it's "the PostgreSQL jail on my server that Home Assistant uses went down due to Plex causing an OOM and now I can't turn on my lights." I've actually lost count of how many times that exact thing has happened.

@jenbanim As they say, it's not that computer people know how to fix computers, it's that they know how to break computers in new and exciting ways.

@glocq@mathstodon.xyz 2024-07-11 07:27
@jenbanim The person on the left has effectively broken their internet access, and it will need fixing by someone with the right skills (that is, understanding of what a desktop icon is and knowledge of how to restore it). Being on the left or on the right is a matter of perspective... (I mean, yeah, the whole point of your graph is that the situation is a matter of perspective. But what I'm saying is ther's no absolute frame of reference)

@jenbanim@mastodo.neoliber.al Let's see... > Hypervigilance? Check > Spanked/hit as a child? Check > Main fight/flight/freeze/fawn response being freeze/fawn? Check > Trusts random internet strangers with my personal life more than my parents? Check > Is not homesick and does not miss parents after being away from them for a year? Check > "Keep crying and Iβll give you something to cry about"? Check > Is the main technical person on the Rainverse Wiki even though I barely touched PHP and MediaWiki? Check > Has contributed to a wiki farm (Miraheze) despite the above? Check > Currently planning to add a feature into Misskey despite having zero Vue experience? @jenbanim A well developed explanation and educational for those who wish to apply this type of graphic to a world wide risk that technology must be used to manage. https://rosecoveredglasses.wordpress.com/2024/06/23/a-fiscal-crisis-the-west-is-on-the-wrong-side-of-cost-curve/

@jenbanim I'm somewhere in the lower middle of the curve, cause I can't set up a pi hole due to static IP problems.

@jenbanim My father is very renowed engenier, and one day he decided a wall on our living room wasted some some space. Problem : it was a bearing wall. So he concieved a steel beam to replace the wall, then he build a real size replica in wood to check if it was suistanable; and then he commissioned a Polish steel mill to build it. Then, he put shores, and with the help of on of his older friend [Note : my father was then 50 and his friend 70], they destroyed the wall, pierce the upper floor, tracted together the beam (it weights something like 200 kg), fixed it, refill all holes and now their living roomhas gained 10mΒ².

@jfrench@cupoftea.social 2024-07-12 08:49
@jenbanim I feel seen. It wasn't the fan, it was the SD card dying, when my pi has over 1,000 days of uptime because I couldn't remember everything you set up on it and are too scared to reboot it. But to be fair the router wouldn't let me charge DNS settings and their DNS kept breaking and being weird so the only possible way to connect securely was to disable DHCP on the router and run it through the Pi, which could then use dnssec and reasonable caching. I reckon on aggregate uptime was better.

@jenbanim This reminds me of the time when the heating stopped working in winter because the kids accidentally turned off the router. Somehow the thermostat built on #HomeAssistant didn't make it. :-D I was just away for 2 days and had to instruct my fiancee by phone how to switch it to manual at the gas boiler. And I'm not talking about the wrong automation setting for the terrarium heater.
