@sparrowsion personally I'm going back to the mark one wallet rather than going via the phone I've heard some using Curve pay on /e/OS/ which might be worth investigating. (Ref forum post https://community.e.foundation/t/gael-suggests-using-curve-for-payment/68526/2?page=3)

@sparrowsion degoogled #iode here, I just suck it up, at least in Europe it's possible to make payments in variuos apps by entering card details. Bolt, wolt, booking allows entering card details, and if you are brave enough you can save them (got details leaked by booking back in a day, never saving again), web shops usually allow paying via open banking api, which in my case is well supported.

@sparrowsion don't bother with it and wouldn't even if I had a googled phone. I don't see the advantage of using my phone for financial transactions, but I see a lot of downsides. Luddite I know. 😄

@sparrowsion when you ask about Google Wallet, I think you're really asking about Google Pay. There are alternatives to Google Wallet in the sense of an app that stores e.g. plane tickets. If you're searching for a tap to pay solution like Google Pay, things get difficult. Some banks in Germany offer tap to pay via their app, but it's the exception.

@sparrowsion I'm not comfortable trusting my phone with my banking details. The cost of any failure there outweighs any convenience. Tapping a credit card is everywhere I live, so just as convenient. My physical wallet has two cards in it: credit card and drivers id.

@sparrowsion I've considers enabling the wallet feature on a Garmin watch. Which isn't through Google, aside from requiring the Garmin app to set up. But haven't done it yet and a bit leery as it's nice not having my watch registered with Garmin.

@sparrowsion I got an old Garmin watch on Craigslist, $40-ish. The battery still lasts several days. I needed the Garmin app on a phone to set it up, but the app can be on a separate User Profile, or separate phone, and credit card purchases seem to keep working even if the watch hasn't synced to a phone in weeks or maybe months. Garmin seemed to me less likely to monetize purchase history, vs. SamsungPay or ApplePay. Of course, VISA itself may.

@sparrowsion I have not even fully de-goog'd and I just go without. YMMV but the annoyance left my body after about a week. Edit: I should also say, the wallet adjacent apps that matter for me all seem to give me QR codes outside of wallet (ie. airlines, points memberships, etc). I think the most annoying part is carrying a physical transit card again.

@sparrowsion I always thought using google wallet gives another company the ability to watch my purchasing so avoided it. Some groups in the EU are trying to develop a FOSS friendly attestation framework for wallets not based on google play. https://mastodon.social/@volla/116238706890314617 A digital wallet is a tough feature to replicate as it takes getting a bunch of banks and governments to agree to support it.

@sparrowsion Graphene in Austria here. I don't have any reward cards. I do have lots of electronic tickets. They either live in their own apps (transit, railway) or as PDFs/images in folders. I have used KItinerary (a KDE& Android App) for travel stuff, and it's great for transportation tickets, but not so much for e.g. museum tickets. For a larger trip I usually collect all the tickets (transportation, venues, events) in a local folder on the phone that is backupped to my nextcloud (and thus can be shared with my travel mates). The folder might have subfolders per day. I don't print anything anymore. I haven't come across anything that needed to be on paper for years.

@sparrowsion @PapyrusBrigade This isn't the answer you were asking for, but I carry a small metal "wallet," which is an old fashioned cigarette case, to hold a few bank/payment cards, some ID cards, and some loyalty cards, all wrapped in an "emergency" $100 bill. It fits the watch pocket of my jeans. It's so much better than the fat wallets of my youth, and it has been sufficient for every transaction since I started carrying it years ago. My kid has a "wallet case" for their phone, which serves the same purpose. EDIT: I see that you use Google Wallet to consolidate online tickets. When I (rarely) have a set of online tickets to manage, I make a private "photo album" in Google Photos of ticket screenshots and QR codes.

@sparrowsion Google Wallet needs a Google account, passes are issued over an Google API to your phone. On a de-googled Phone its pointless to install the app. But I don't know any other way to get Google issued NFC passes on the phone. Let me know if you find a way

@sparrowsion hadn't previously looked into this -- I was handling things manually -- but now that you bring it up I am interested, and now that I'm looking, I'm checking out what's available on FDroid where it'll flag antifeatures. Going to give FossWallet a try first, I think. If you use a password manager you can also just keep receipts, confirmation codes, QR codes, etc. as files in there, although it won't be as fully functional as nicely displaying tickets and passes. EDIT: apparently there's a whole category "pass wallet" on FDroid -- searching will only turn up exact text matches in the title or top-level description so this should be a more comprehensive list of options. There's one called just "wallet" that may also be of interest. The others seem to be more limited in scope or not recently updated.
