Years ago I learned that domestic abuse rises when England's men's team lose a big match. It's haunted me ever since, leaving me on edge when I know the games are happening (yeah I was a lot of fun at parties, why do you ask). I fervently wish for their early from tournaments, yet was conflicted because them losing feels so dangerous. Welp I've just read that it's even worse than they win! https://thenewfeminist.co.uk/2026/06/domestic-abuse-rises-most-when-england-win-says-...

Wearing a binder in the heat isn't so bad if I don't wear anything over it. I hadn't been brave enough to do this so far (outside of one transgym session last summer) but I went to the store yesterday with "it's just a crop top" vibes and it was totally uneventful. This has been another installment of my #TransMundanity "say when things are fine as a #trans person" campaign, because otherwise the little wins, moments of safety or acceptance, don't get tal...

I cannot possibly express how stunned I was, in this year of our Jacob Misiorowski 2026, to see the #MNTwins' Bailey Ober of all people throw not just a Maddux but one of less than ninety pitches. Bailey Ober didn't throw a pitch over 89 miles an hour and he also won the game in 89 pitches!!! That's not even just a Maddux, I think it should get to be its own thing. If your fastest pitch is less than 90mph and you win the game in less than 90 pitches, surely we can call...

    > at some point following the financial crisis, would-be entrepreneurs got it into their heads that their job was to invent the future, and consumers’ job was to go along with that invented future. I can see a little, so I do care a lot about light and contrast and things, so I'm not in the exact situation that @WeirdWriter describes here, but so much of this resonates with me. Especially as we're under increasing pressure to have cameras-on internal meetings at work. Reading here "I am an unwilling cameraman, shooting an obscure documentary about my own face" made me want to jump out it my seat and stamp my feet with how strongly I agree! https://sightle...

I've found the most me thing ever: a website that procedurally generates ambient music during MLB games, based on the game situation - the score, count, runners on base... It ends up kinda musique concrète, which I also love. I'm watching my Twinkies with this in one ear, and it's so fun to notice the sound change every time the game state does (and it's still fun during commercial breaks). https://www.baseballscores.io/

LB I said this Friday is exceptionally good because two years ago on Good Friday a good friend and I tried to meet a bunch of his friends for a drink, for what they called Best Friday. But we got there late and missed them. So the two of us went on a little pub crawl of our own and ended up drunk enough to fess up to our feelings for each other (which we'd both been so good at hiding we didn't think the other person was into us) and we've been together ever since. It re...

I told a stranger I'm fat and ugly. I was making a point about how we talk about fat ugly people. (He'd said that the character of a notorious fat ugly person was obviously bad because of the fatness and ugliness.) He told me to stop beating myself up. It's very important that I am not. I AM fat (and denied healthcare, among other things, because of it). I AM ugly. I'm not content to individually escape ugliness. I need society to stop treating ugliness like...

The other day I determined that my webcam wasn't working on my laptop, for calls with my parents, OR on my work laptop. D reminded me we had one I could use for work but doesn't work on Linux, and sourced a replacement. Which I said I didn't really need, just for my parents. But he'd bought it for me already, aww. So tonight I was looking forward to them no longer complaining that they can't see me. First thing my mom says is "you're ge...
