@mmasnick +1 for would-love-to-see-you-post-and-be-more-active-here! Also am interested in what has made the conversation better on #bluesky for you. My specific community is more active here for the time being but can understand if there’s a pretty high-quality general tech community on bsky.

@mmasnick Thanks for posting here too, even if it means you don't see my reply 😊, because I always look forward to reading them but don't always remember to go to techdirt and browse there.

@mmasnick If you're interested, New Yorker 2017 piece "What Does Tulsi Gabbard Believe" was a fascinating read that includes this about a religious leader she followed, Chris Butler: "Defectors tell stories of children discouraged by Butler from attending secular schools; ... of devotees lying prostrate whenever he entered the room, or adding bits of his nail clippings to their food, or eating spoonfuls of sand that he had walked upon." https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/11/06/what-does-tulsi-gabbard-believe

@mmasnick have you written up anything about the replies here? I tried to say something about that in this thread. I hope you see this and don't think it's one of the bad replies :( https://newsie.social/@LALegault/111722884239385115

@mmasnick Thanks for posting here. I always enjoy your opinions and commentary and usually don’t see them if they’re not posted here (Not sure if I understand the dig at Mastodon replies. I haven’t seen many problems aside from the usual that you’d get anywhere)

@mmasnick Your replies here are consistently among the absolute wildest. Please continue to draw fire.

@mmasnick i can say that i appreciate you here way more than on bsky, in that like 90% of my feed content there is politics and the drama surrounding that, and it gets tiresome pretty quickly - there are way broader topics here - if theres something i can do to make you feel welcomed here more than there i'm happy to do it!

@chyld@mastodon.social 2024-01-10 21:54
@mmasnick I for one would be very happy to see you post more here. I’m sorry your experience has been so negative; I’ve heard it from other high-profile tech folks, and it’s a shame for folks to be driven away from what has the potential to function as a real commons.

@mmasnick The problem with (modern?) conservatism is that they are people who believe that rules are not for them, especially the rules they expect of others.

@mmasnick it’s funny that “those in power” only are an issue for her because it’s none of the usual racist, rich assholes doing the cancellations.

@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online 2024-01-11 23:36
@mmasnick Welcome back! Very glad you're giving Mastodon another look. Feel like people here are becoming more aware of what a downer knee jerk negativity is, and are doing better at being constructive, but you can be the judge of that. In any case, very excited about your decision to share you work here again!

@mmasnick "... but maybe to ignore the replies..." Old but still apt ...

@SmartmanApps@dotnet.social 2024-01-12 02:36
@mmasnick "Neri and I would not have had the ability to respond in a rapid fashion in a public forum..." It's not a public forum - it's a private forum which is open to the public. Public parks, public hospitals, public libraries, public transport, etc. are all so-named because they are literally owned by the public (the government). Private businesses which are open to the public aren't public businesses. It's exhausting seeing these people continually fail to understand this...

@CassandraVert@indieweb.social 2024-01-12 02:40
@mmasnick No surprise there, really. Republicans keep making commitments they have no intention of keeping, plus they keep mislabeling things. Let's normalize calling out bad faith actors BEFORE they pull away the football.
