There’s another instance of someone 5000 years ago burning their porridge in a pot so badly they just took it out back and buried it, maybe thinking no one would know about it, and some archeologist 5000 years later put them on blast and now everyone knows about it. Maybe the thing that makes us human is fucking up in small mostly harmless ways and hoping no one will notice

@checkervest to be fair, nobody ·did· notice for five entire millennia: that seems like an excellent run 😜

@checkervest incredible how good we have it here in cyberspace. Nothing we do will ever make any sense to anyone ever again after the lights will have gone out in some years. We have the freedom to fuck up in every conceivable way and wow, do we use it!

@checkervest sometimes they'll find something meticulously patterned and speculate about the reason that one section has the pattern a little wrong As someone who's painted patterns all I can think is, they hoped no one would notice that part was wrong

@checkervest I vote that both of these are early examples of malicious compliance and silently hating your job.

@checkervest Fun little thing: years ago when I had a disastrously burned pot (left on the stove for hours by mistake), I read that one way to clean it is to bury it outside in the earth. I don't know whether it was the moistness, the microbes in the soil, or something else. But it worked. Dug it up after a few days and was able to remove the caked-on burnt.

@checkervest There's a Karma Bonus on this: there was this other human who had made the pot, but rather than get mad, he and the guilty party went out back and buried the pot...
