Revolut, hackers demand a $3 million ransom AGI - A group of hackers who claim to be responsible for the breach of Revolut’s data has threatened to sell confidential information of hundreds of clients to other criminal organizations unless the British online bank pays a ransom of $3 million within 24 hours. The Financial Times reports this. The group, calling itself “iamnotavillain,” published the ultimatum on a website Wednesday afternoon, September 16th, accompanied by a digital countdown timer. The public demand is unusual, as hackers generally prefer to ask for ransom privately and only reveal the attack if the victim refuses to pay or negotiate, often publishing details on a dark web site. The message urges Revolut to transfer “6,000 Xmr, equivalent to three million dollars,” otherwise “all data will be sold and you’ll have blood on your hands.” Xmr is the abbreviation for the cryptocurrency Monero, frequently used by hackers because its transactions are difficult to trace. The group told the Financial Times that it is the first time it has used a website to present its demands and that negotiations with Revolut have not yet begun. The hackers created the site Monday evening, publishing obscured images of some of the information they claim to have obtained from the bank. After the ultimatum was released, they also sent the British newspaper a 60-second video in which a person scrolls through the alleged archive of stolen documents. The footage would show driver’s licenses, passports, photographs used in customer identity verification procedures, and transaction histories. The breach involved at least 680 accounts. According to reconstruction, the hackers obtained the documents by compromising an Italian government email system, used to present themselves as belonging to law enforcement agencies and request information on specific Revolut clients for several months. The group said it selected its targets through blockchain analysis, identifying accounts with large cryptocurrency holdings. #Revolut #British #TheFinancialTimes #Monero #theFinancialTimes #first #60-second #Italianhttps://www.agi.it/estero/news/2026-09-16/revolut-hacker-riscatto--39103166/
