Il Tempo: Ultimate Championship, un super Tamberi vince anche a Budapest: "Grazie al pubblico"
Budapest, 13 set. (Adnkronos) - Un super Gimbo Tamberi nella terza e ultima giornata dell'Ultimate Championship di atletica leggera a Budapest. Il campione olimpico azzurro ha dominato la finale del salto in alto. Dopo il terzo posto a Bruxelles nella finale di Diamond League, e dopo l'oro all'Europeo di Birmingham e quello ai Giochi del Mediterraneo a Taranto, il 34enne campione marchigiano si è imposto saltando 2,37 metri, record mondiale stagionale. Secondo posto per lo statunitense JuVaughn Harrison con 2,30.
Il campione ha poi messo in scena il suo personale show e dopo aver fallito l'ultima prova a 2.41 si rialza e festeggia con salti mortali, giro di campo, e corsa verso la tribuna, scavalcando come suo solito per andare a salutare la moglie, la primogenita Camilla e i suoi tifosi.
Gimbo, sceso in pedana con la sua tradizionale 'mezza barba' ('halfshave', il suo soprannome), va poi a prendersi il trofeo nella premiazione con il tricolore sulle spalle e si prende tutti gli applausi quando viene annunciato il suo nome, poi mentre solleva il premio allo stadio risuona "Bello e impossibile" di Gianna Nannini.
L'ultima volta che Tamberi aveva saltato 2,37 risale all'11 giugno 2024 nella finale degli Europei di Roma sotto gli occhi del Presidente della Repubblica, Sergio Mattarella. La misura ottenuta a Budapest è la stessa con la quale aveva vinto l'oro (assieme a Mutaz Barshim del Qatar) l'1 agosto 2021 ai Giochi olimpici di Tokyo 2020.
"Grazie a tutto il pubblico, alla mia famiglia, mi hanno spinto oltre i miei limiti: come puoi non saltare così con un pubblico come questo?", le parole di Tamberi dopo la vittoria.

Budapest, September 13 (Adnkronos) – A superb Gimbo Tamberi in the third and final day of the Ultimate Championship athletics event in Budapest. The Olympic champion Italian athlete dominated the high jump final. After third place in Brussels at the Diamond League final, and after gold at the European Championships in Birmingham and the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, the 34-year-old Marche-born champion prevailed by jumping 2.37 meters, a seasonal world record. Second place went to American JuVaughn Harrison with 2.30.
The champion then put on his own show and after failing his last attempt at 2.41 he gets up and celebrates with somersaults, a lap of honor, and a run towards the stands, overtaking as usual to greet his wife, eldest daughter Camilla and his fans.
Gimbo, descended onto the stage with his traditional ‘halfshave’ (‘halfshave’, his nickname), then went on to take the trophy in the presentation with the tricolor on his shoulders and received all the applause when his name was announced, then while raising the prize at the stadium Gianna Nannini's “Bello e impossibile” (Beautiful and Impossible) resonated.
The last time Tamberi had jumped 2.37 dated back to June 11, 2024 in the final of the Rome European Championships under the gaze of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. The measure achieved in Budapest is the same with which he won gold (together with Mutaz Barshim from Qatar) on August 1, 2021 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
“Thank you to everyone in the audience, my family, they pushed me beyond my limits: how could you not jump so high with an audience like this?” Tamberi’s words after the victory.
