Rare and valuable: brain scanning (destructive) and memory imprinting (onto a 5-6 year old child, whose personality is overwritten): in The Permanence it's a capital offense for commoners to do it, but nearly universal among the nobility because lossy tech-mediated reincarnation is how the aristocracy maintains its grip on power. Common and essential: conservative tyranny.

Well, there are a couple of feline mutation viruses you can catch, and people have been known to mutate into big cats and show up in public. It ain't great. Society is learning to adjust to it, but it's not going super well, as you might have guessed. There are also oddities to it that no one understand, and you could ask Roan all about it, as he seems to be a test case for the strangest things of them all.

The traditions vary, but coming back from death is not actually a thing in the world of the Winds & Pillars. The sacrificed Winds & Pillars retain a bit of personality when their energy is siphoned into the Veil, but that is slowly diluted when more energy arrives. #WritingCommunity #EpicFantasy

In which Imp and his crew take the dream roads to Narnia to film amateur action talking animal porn to sell at a furry convention, but wind up in the version of Narnia written by William S. Burroughs instead of C. S. Lewis. There are mugwumps, and Jadis the White Witch is a strict lesbian domme.

Literally wrote this bit of fanfic minutes ago. -------- Odd, an actual predator, was not doing any predating. He sat at an angle, staring at the window, his face soft. His eyes, though, were hard; in rest, it was a burned land that showed through his eyes, as though whatever he’d been through, whatever he’d seen, had whittled away the tender parts of him until all that remained was bone. #wip #amwriting

#PennedPossibilities 1033 — Would you or have ever considered writing a MC with mental illness? Uh, yes. I think most if not all of my main characters struggle with depression and/or PTSD. My characters generally come from dark places, and learn to live with them, in one manner or another. Kind of like life. #writing

#PennedPossibilities 953 — What author(s) did you dislike at first but grew to enjoy reading? I feel so badly about this, but there's only one I can think of off the top of my head. It's Sarah J. Maas. It took some time for her work to grow on me. She has an amazing style, but there are occasional things that she'll say in books (sentences or phrases) that just strike me as rather odd. That being said, of course, she's a bestselling author for a very good reason. Her stories are terrific, compelling, and fantastically woven, her characters are refreshing, and her worlds are creative, dangerous yet beautiful, and heartbreakingly tragic. I really do enjoy everything of hers these days. With that in mind, us authors sometimes tend to read books and an oddly worded sentence will strike us. We might think to ourselves, "Gee, I could have written that sentence better," or, "I would've worded that like this, instead." Needless to say, I've had a few moments like that. But don't get me wrong, I *do* love her books. #WritingCommunity #WritersOfMastodon
