#scribesAndMakers № 4 How many songs are there where you know all the lyrics by heart? I have no idea but there are many new wave and other pop songs from the 80's that will be forever in my head. Exception: Duran Duran is one of my favorite bands but their lyrics are sometimes hard for me to understand. And I don't think the lyrics websites are 100% accurate.

№ 4 How many songs are there where you know all the lyrics by heart? Honestly, not that many. Mostly songs that don't have many words. I usually know some but not all of the words to songs I like. #ScribesAndMakers

#ScribesAndMakers 4 May: How many songs are there where you know all the lyrics by heart? Most of what I listen to now isn't performed in English, but I realised a long while ago that understanding the lyrics isn't that important to me. It is the sound of the song overall that appeals. To know more I would need to be fluent in at least German, Japanese, and Faroese... Eivor - Salt https://youtu.be/IW8jTpb5EpY?si=kaZA14QXEBYMxtpc

How many songs are there where you know all the lyrics by heart? I used to know more. Back when music was my constant companion. When vinyl on the turntable needed adjustments and songs became old friends who visited regularly because re-listening was part of the joy. I still remember snippits and snatches. Some choruses. Some openings. The catch-y bits. But whole songs? Not very many anymore. #ScribesAndMakers

#ScribesAndMakers May 4. How many songs are there where you know all the lyrics by heart? There's a few that I can think of off the top of my head but mostly I know them when I hear them. Then there are ones like Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger where you only need to know the one refrain.

№ 3 When you see the word 'read', is your first instinct to read it as present tense or past tense? Present tense, for sure. I'm not the biggest fan of words I have to know the context before I know how to pronounce it. #ScribesAndMakers

#ScribesAndMakers May 3. When you see the word 'read', is your first instinct to read it as present tense or past tense? If it's on it's own, I usually read it as past tense, pronounced like 'red'.

#ScribesAndMakers 5/3 When you see the word 'read', is your first instinct to read it as present tense or past tense? I always read “read” except that time I read “read”.

#ScribesAndMakers 2 May: When you finish a project, "the way you want" or "good enough"? (Going backwards one day, because I was on holiday and this one seems a fun one to catch up on…) The way I want only exists in my head; as an abstract idea, a feeling or goal that I want to convey. As soon as the first words hit the page, the best I can hope for is “good enough”. Throughout the process, I then add story arcs, intricacies, red herrings, side ideas, all of which I want to service this goal, this idea, so that even though the story takes on a life of its own, it’s still an approximation of that which I want, fallible, misinterpretable, and yet, a testament to that which I hope to achieve. All of this makes the publication process absolute torture. I see the faults, the weaknesses, the vulnerability, the ways in which the words can be mistook for something not nearly good enough. And yet, somehow, that’s still the way I want it.

#ScribesAndMakers 3 May: When you see the word 'read', is your first instinct to read is as present tense or past tense? By the time I got to the second half of the question, I had already internally vocalised it in the past tense 😅

#ScribesAndMakers 5/3. When you see the word 'read', is your first instinct to read is as present tense or past tense? Here, now? Present. Otherwise it depends on the context. Obviously. #writing #writingCommunity

#ScribesAndMakers 5/1 Are you starting any new projects this month?

I’m torn over trying my luck on a project that I’m %70 sure is probably a scam.

I got an offer to write interactive romance novellas that get aired on Youtube. They’re luring me with a fairly competitive pay rate but I’m seeing some big red flags

  1. I asked about their “AI” policy. They got back and said they don’t accept AI (good!) but the artwork that goes with the stories seems pretty sloppy.

  2. The author testimonials also give me cause to doubt that they’re being truthful about not using AI. They all say the same thing, using the same phrases, just worded slightly differently. A clue, Watson!

  3. Even if this is legit, and I end up making a few thousand a month, these are stories I’m not passionate about and my schedule is stretched thin as it is.

So why would I consider it?

Man, would it be nice to actually pull in a paycheck from my creative endeavors for once! I figure if I write the few sample chapters they’re asking, the worse that will happen is I’ll waste a few hours of my time. The best that could happen is I open up a decent revenue stream for myself.

The project is called Scripts: Episodes and Choices. Anyone have any experience with this?

#ScribesAndMakers 5/2. When you finish a project, do you tend to feel that you have everything just the way you want it, or is it more like 'good enough'? Perfect is the enemy of done. Good enough is good enough. #writing #writingCommunity

#ScribesAndMakers for April 30: What's a problem you solved in your creative work this month? A: We took a deep dive into character and word spacing for the book to tighten up the text and avoid unsightly rivers, oddly spaced lines, and pages that just had one sentence.

#ScribesAndMakers Apr 30: What's a problem you solved in your creative work this month? I've been working sporadically on a story with a good friend who's also a well-regarded veteran author. It wasn't gelling for him and it wasn't gelling for me, and we were on the verge of abandoning it. This month I learned he's dying, and wants me to finish it for him. It's given me new determination to turn it into the best damn story I am capable of. But I'd sooner have junked the story, and kept Ted.

#ScribesAndMakers 4/30 - What's a problem you solved in your creative work this month? I figured out the (tiny) plot for the second Wolf Bonus Story and finished writing it. I also know two ways of getting the cover for that one, so I should be able to set it all up for my readers soon. This one will have Liz and Eric as MC, as it's for Book 2. Plus I now have a plan for my next release (Moon Rises) in July, and I'm actually organizing marketing for the launch. #WritingCommunity
