I've noticed an influx of new people posting to #Running and wanted to say this: How fast, slow, or far you run isn't as important as you are making time for yourself to be active. In the world today, that is one of the most important things. If you're injured, like I am (grrrr), there are other activities you can do to get back to running. The community here is second to none. I’ve never done an #Introduction post, so... I’m Tim. I have #MultipleSclerosis, and although that’s only a part of me, it’s shaped my life hugely since diagnosis (in 2009, after 4 years of symptoms). I’m a much kinder person than I used to be and I’m grateful for that, even if the disease itself is a bastard. I used to run marathons, but #MS eventually put paid to that, so now I swim in a lake and row on a river instead. I try to focus on what I have and not what I’ve lost. I have an MA in medieval history; I work as a PM for a large corporation, (but not very hard); I’m a trustee/director of a Nottingham-based charity combatting domestic violence. As a middle aged, white, CIS guy, this has been a real eye-opener; I’m a member of my local #parkrun core team; I’m a qualified running coach. I have loads of tattoos. I’m interested in politics but try to focus on being a force for good myself. Nauseating, no? ❤️ animals (esp cats!) ❤️ music ❤️ books Motto: don’t be a dick

Just chatting with @roastinghouse@mastodonapp.uk about different #ParkRun courses and found that my new regular (Hoblingwell) is 783 out of 835 hardest UK parkruns (which is very pleasing to me because I find it tough). Although my other usual (Norman Park) is 5th with a tied 3rd place score.... Although it doesn't account for there regularly being 800+ runners to negotiate with, which affects your time. However I'm also fascinated by the hardest one, which for some reason my brain is telling me I want to have a go at. Why? Absolutely no idea. @TheBreadmonkey@beige.party I like the idea of being a #parkrun tourist but when it comes down to logistics, I don't because I like the idea of being able to walk, run, or cycle to parkrun without a car journey. But then going to Great Yarmouth for me would be a weekend away so tourist pounds to a UK seaside is no bad thing - I bet most people justify a large bag of chips by the sea afterwards 😎

When we say that transphobes want to eliminate trans and non-binary people from public life, it's not hyperbole, it's backed up by their actions. Threatening legal action against #parkrun a free-to-attend, volunteer-run event which encourages people to move their bodies, and if they can't do that then to get outside and volunteer. All because, why? New(ish) #parkrun in Bridgwater (sneaky NENDY) now done. It has a very “new to parkrun” vibe, lots of walkers and young families. It’s also a PB potential course IMHO. I did a sub 9min/mile first mile 😱 then the wheels fell off and I hung on (walked up the hill on the second of three laps).

ParkRun 33 completed this morning, shaved six seconds off the last run. There was an individual treating the event like he was going for gold at the Olympics who barged through at one point (genuinely don’t get that kind of ParkRunner) but otherwise an enjoyable experience. Need to get the cadence down a bit though - twice in January, not at all in February. #ParkRun #EdenProject

Went up to Cotsford Fields for #parkrun this morning. I'm nursing a poorly knee so I volunteered as tail walker. Managed to get my highest ever finish position (40th)! It was a really nice course with an idyllic stretch along the cliffs overlooking the sea. Very small, very friendly, hope to return and actually run it some time.

Another ParkRun in the bag today at the Eden Project and a minute off the time from two weeks ago puts me under 29 minutes which I’m exceedingly happy with. Apparently this was my ParkRun no. 32 (could have sworn it was higher but hey ho). Can I compete 18 more this year? I can certainly try. Soon it’ll be time to start running midweek as well and maybe train for a 10k. Maybe. Hmm… #ParkRun
