Pleased to meet Brick the Jumping Spider! I thought she was dying, that I had lain her to rest in the soil. But she revived and now sits underneath the succulent leaves. Named because I found her injured on the patio bricks, barely moving. She let me hand her a stick to climb, she grabbed it and moved onto it immediately but then remained motionless. I put her in this pot, something was moist on her head, so I thought the worst. But about an hour later she started moving around the pot, then came out and let me look her over. In fact she wasn't afraid of me at all, moving around and cleaning off whatever blood or whatever it was off her face. A leg injury maybe? I easily took a few pics as she cleaned and regained her strength. And wow the green mandibles are just stunning. #garden #spider #jumpingspider

spider Hover or focus to reveal Sensitive
I caught a young jumping spider that was inside our house today. I've wanted to keep one as a pet for a while, but I hadn't bought springtails and flightless fruit flies yet. The "cat" distribution system at its finest. I haven't named them yet but this little cutie just had a very cathartic (for me) first meal in his new home - a (culex?) mosquito (of which we have way too many in the back yard). I'm happy that I now know an abundant food source that will do OK until I get captive bred prey insects going. I have "sweet blood" so I'm gonna have no trouble attracting and catching mosquitoes to feed in the meantime. #JumpingSpider

We have named the spider "Cat" (@D3ecerra@indieweb.social came up with that one 😃) because a #JumpingSpider is really just a tiny cat, with crab characteristics. Cat is enjoying exploring their new home.

The fly that's been in the enclosure for hours has finally been rumbled. Dinner time! #JumpingSpider #ASpiderNamedCat
