Happy #DigitalIndependance Day to those celebrating here in Canada. The 1st Sunday of the month is when we celebrate #DeGoogle efforts or start thinking about switching personal apps to more private and/or #OpenSource options.

Here's an update of where I am in this transition. Some things to keep in mind while reviewing my choices:

1. I'm #Retired , therefore don't have to worry about work integration.
2. I'm lazy, therefore it's taking me longer to DeGoogle .

My journey so far (started Feb 2026) Google --> Vivaldi (95%) GMAIL --> ProtonMail (75%) Contacts --> ProtonMail (50%) Calendar --> ProtonMail (60%) Drive --> ProtonMail (95%) Maps --> CoMaps (5%) Photos --> ?? Chat --> ?? Notes --> ?? Messages YouTube YT Music The % indicates how much of my activity has been switched. Getting to 100% may be impossible because of family integration on some apps so I'm focusing on reducing my Google exposure. #CDNdid #DigitalIndependance

Heute ist wieder #digitalerunabhängigkeitstag . Das bedeutet mitmachen Leute 😊

Kleine Übersicht und Inspiration was ich alles mittlerweile gemacht habe:

• Signal runtergeladen

• Linux Ubuntu auf Hauptlaptop installiert

• Von Spotify weg über Deezer und nun zu Qobuz Download Store, wo ich jetzt monatlich für 15€ eine kleine Musiksammlung aufbaue und zum Abspielen VLC Player verwende

• Proton Pass als Passwortmanager auf allen Geräten installiert

• YouTube Konto mit allen Videos gelöscht

• Brave und Ecosia ausprobiert und dann zu Duck Duck Go gewechselt aufgrund der Auswahl No AI

• Zahlreiche Webseiten per RSS im Feed mit der App NetNewsWire

• Weg von Instagram zu Pixelfed

• eigenen kleinen Fotoserver mit Immich

• GMX gekündigt und gelöscht und zu Posteo und Proton gewechselt

• Thunderbird installiert und eingerichtet

• Osmand Maps installiert

• LibreOffice als Officeersatz

• Leider kein Wechselrezept, aber für menstruierende Personen wichtig: Drip als Periodenkalender runtergeladen

Nächste Schritte bei mir: Taplet mit Linux bespielen, Externe Festplatte formatieren für Datensicherung

Und jetzt kommt das Beste, die denken sie können das nicht: ich habe einen BWL Hintergrund.

Daher Leute: man muss nicht IT studiert haben, um so etwas umzusetzen.😊😊

Over the course of today, at a leisurely rate, I think we'll do a roundup of European efforts regarding #DigitalSovereignty and #DigitalIndependance. Europe and Canada have both struggled with this issue, but it's fair to say our allies across the Atlantic have been far more progressive and Digital Sovereignty has far more awareness with citizens and individual governments. #MastodonCanada ##MastoCanadaGOV
