Happy #DigitalIndependance Day to those celebrating here in Canada. The 1st Sunday of the month is when we celebrate #DeGoogle efforts or start thinking about switching personal apps to more private and/or #OpenSource options.

Here's an update of where I am in this transition. Some things to keep in mind while reviewing my choices:

  1. I'm #Retired , therefore don't have to worry about work integration.
  2. I'm lazy, therefore it's taking me longer to DeGoogle .

My journey so far (started Feb 2026) Google --> Vivaldi (95%) GMAIL --> ProtonMail (75%) Contacts --> ProtonMail (50%) Calendar --> ProtonMail (60%) Drive --> ProtonMail (95%) Maps --> CoMaps (5%) Photos --> ?? Chat --> ?? Notes --> ?? Messages YouTube YT Music The % indicates how much of my activity has been switched. Getting to 100% may be impossible because of family integration on some apps so I'm focusing on reducing my Google exposure. #CDNdid #DigitalIndependance

Yesterday Gord and I did a road trip to Takakkaw Falls, on the Yoho River. The river is milky-white, from the suspended limestone dust, broken free from the cascading water. Navigation was provided by @CoMaps@floss.social, an OpenStreetMaps interface. #DeGoogle #DigitalSovereignty #CDNDID #FOSS
