@pinhman@humanwords.party The 2025 #CPC campaign was mostly about high cost-of-living and the housing crisis, not about outrage. It's a mistake to confuse the posts that the X algorithm gives notoriety and what actually motivates party members and voters. @dyckron@cosocial.ca #CanPol #cdnpoli

@dyckron@cosocial.ca Uh huh. "Read on paper, his remarks sound conciliatory, balanced, even statesmanlike. They are also almost total bunk." Surprise, surprise, the Star's angle is that Conservatives are bad, rather than asking what is the right way to convince Albertans who might vote "yes" to choose "no". Would it really benefit the "no" side to say that the referendum is nonsense based on conspiracy theories, or to pick a fight with Premier Smith? #CanPol #cdnpoli #abpoli

@NMBA@mstdn.ca @dyckron@cosocial.ca families divided.

  1. Immigrants to Alberta. Often in Canada immigrants are more patriotic than the native-born, but sometimes they're less likely to vote. Appeal in the newspapers they read and the shows they watch to stand up for the Maple Leaf.

I write mostly in terms of advertising, but big speeches, door-knocking and GOTV have an important role to play as well. Federalists should always be respectful.

Mackenzie Gray: "The text of the Gordie Howe Bridge deal has been released, and it backs up our reporting from last week. #cdnpoli Canada will give the US 50% of the revenues, after expenses to operate the bridge for 15 years. [...] That calculation does not include Canadian debt payments on the bridge, despite Canada paying $6.4B to build the bridge and the US/Michigan putting up $0" https://gordiehoweinternationalbridge.com/proposed-agreement-in-principle/" https://nitter.net/Gray_Mackenzie/status/2079773449300447501#m #GordieHoweBridge #CanPol #cdnpoli #MarkCarney

An excellent editorial from the Globe & Mail:

But Mr. Trump does not behave according to any rational calculus.

It isn’t just that he has no understanding of policy, nor any knowledge of history to guide him; or that he conforms to none of the norms of custom, morality or law. It is that, even understood as a wholly self-involved, self-serving bundle of id, one whose only motive is self-aggrandizement and self-enrichment, Mr. Trump is incomprehensible. His actions make no sense even in terms of rational self-interest. It’s all just random impulses, fleeting grudges, synaptic burps, based on who spoke to him last, what he saw on TV or what he had for breakfast, for all I know.

It's about how Canada shouldn't even try to appease him, because it doesn't matter - no matter what concessions we make, he's gonna do whatever he wants. And I've been saying that since he got back into the office and eliminated all the adults in the room that kept his first administration within spitting distance of normality.

Worth a read. Imagine any major US paper printing this. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-there-is-no-appeasing-donald-trump-or-deterring-him/

Canada's wildfires are growing in size, prompting evacuations everywhere after years of climate change inaction. Naturally, in response, Trump threatens even more tariffs on Canada for the smoke that is blowing across the border into the US. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/us-complaints-trump-widlfire-smoke-9.7274466 #Canada #CanPol #Canpoli #US #USPol #Trump #Fire #Tariffs #WTF #International

Does anyone else get the impression that bill C-36 is not only designed to take away our privacy, but to do so in a very "rules for thee but not for me" way? MPs and their rich friends will probably find that it's "in the public interest" to protect their privacy while the rest of us will be told to stop being difficult and to go enhance shareholder value like a good little serf. #canpol #privacy #c36

This is another good depiction of how closely intertwined Canada and the US are. Not only are pipelines in Canada profitable for US companies but those wildfires are already affecting the air in US cities several miles/kilometres from the border. Nature does not have borders. Fire and smoke do not stop at imaginary human delineations. We already have to borrow firefighters from other countries to keep up. Canada has a lot of water compared to other countries but that’s dwindling. Pipelines already poison waters nearby and destroy animal habitats. According to this Canadian government stats site on pipeline incidents (https://www.bst.gc.ca/eng/stats/pipeline/2025/ssep-sspo-2025.html) there’s been over 60 pipeline fires in the last 10 years (16 were explosions) and about 350 incidents of “product released” (mostly natural gas). “Raw natural gas (before processing) is composed primarily of methane, and may also contain varying amounts of ethane, propane, butane, and pentane (commonly referred to as natural gas liquids - NGLs)” https://natural-resources.canada.ca/energy-sources/fossil-fuels/natural-gas-primer There’s 811 reported active fires across Canada (https://fireradar.ca/active-wildfires-canada) Half of those fires are in the provinces along this proposed new pipeline. #CanPol #USpol #Wildfires #Pipelines https://ottawa.place/@jd/116930414288563981

@fname@kamloops.social The law itself hasn't gotten nearly the amount of attention it deserves. As I understand it, in November 2025, Parliament passed it, thinking it would affect a few hundred thousand people, and nobody really paid attention. A few months ago, I heard on #CBC that because of the law millions of Americans are now Canadian citizens, and they need only submit some paperwork to prove it. #CanPol #cdnpoli #citizenship

I present to you my theory that there are, in fact, no #conservative politicians. There are only conservative voters. The correlation between low education levels and conservative political leanings is very strong and repeatedly demonstrated. Ergo, the politicians that want to fuck the world over, kill people, burn crosses, and be general overall fuck heads see that their best chance is by becoming "conservative politicians" so those dumb ass dunce fucks will vote for them. #uspol #canpol

"So to recap the Liberals’ spring economic update: there is a sovereign wealth fund that is not a sovereign wealth fund, a capital budget that is not a capital budget, a balanced operating budget that is not balanced, a commitment to spend less while actually spending more, and a plan to invest more in things that are not really investments."
