Good Morning #Canada Why should you visit Fort St James, a town of 73,000 only incorporated in 1952? It is the oldest continually inhabited town in Canada west of the Rockies and served as an economic hub in B.C. for 100 years before the railway arrived. The outpost's log buildings have been preserved and you can get a real sense of how the fur trade built Canada. #CanadaIsAwesome #History #TravelCanada The Last Fur Trade Post: Preserving History at Fort St James https://terraencounters.wordpress.com/2023/10/09/the-last-fur-trade-post-preserving-history-at-fort-st-james/

Good Morning #Canada Over the past week financial reports have pointed out that oil companies are recording record profits, some with a 40% increase year over year, due to the Orange Idiot starting a war in the middle east. Weird that they don't share the risk with consumers. Seems appropriate to point out that the evil #OilIndustry started in a small town in Ontario. We're sorry... #CanadaIsAwesome #History #Greed Ontario Village Where World's Oil Industry Began https://youtu.be/wj_7aiUMYeo

Good Morning #Canada If you're looking for a unique #TravelCanada destination then Flin Flon has to be on your list. You may wonder why I'd recommend a mining town with a funny name. Flin Flon was named after a character in a 1905 #SyFy novel and is one of two towns in Canada that is separated by a provincial border. The town lies in a band of volcanic rock giving it a unique landscape in Manitoba. #CanadaIsAwesome #History Flin Flon https://thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/flin-flon

Good Morning #Canada Happy International Fast Food Day to all of you who ignore the calorie count on the menu. #FastFood is big business and employs over 410K Canadians with most working for Tim Hortons, the largest Fast Food retailer in the country. You can't swing a cat without hitting a Timmies. Note: I do not condone cat swinging. #CanadaIsAwesome #DoYouWantFriesWithThat Fast Food Statistics in Canada | Made in CA https://madeinca.ca/fast-food-canada-statistics/

Good Morning #Canada One of Canada’s unique parks is one you may not have heard about. Kejimkujik National Park covers 404 km2 in southwest Nova Scotia. A large inland portion makes up the National Historic Site, and the Kejimkujik National Park Seaside is on the province's Atlantic coast. It is also designated a National Dark Sky Preserve. Rest up for your visit - Kejimkujik means "tired muscles" in the Mi'kmaq language. ##CanadaIsAwesome #TravelCanada #NationalParks https://youtu.be/JJVwp1wu7SA

Good Morning #Canada #Manitoba is on an upward trajectory in the past year, except for very recent heat waves and wildfires. The province may be returning to a similar positive period in early 1900 when Winnipeg was booming and 1 of the most beautiful legislature buildings in Canada was built. It's story has many twists and turns, and overcame #WWI, the end of Winnipeg's boom, general strikes, and corruption. #CanadaIsAwesome #History #Architecture https://youtu.be/XZQGQwll7mw

Good Morning #Canada Every morning I post some Canadian history, interesting geography, weird factoid, strange cultural topic or moronic humor. I've learned a lot about our country but apparently there are still large gaps in my knowledge. Today I learned that the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are governed without political parties. How awesome is that. No political organizations chasing power for the sake of power. #CanadaIsAwesome #CanPoli https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consensus_government_in_Canada

Good Morning #Canada In 2013 a silly little survey with zero statistical evidence nominated our nation's capital as the most #Boring city in Canada. It somehow got picked up by major news organizations - must have been a boring news week - and Ottawa has been trying to erase that reputation for 13

Good Morning #Canada I have some local #History for you today. OTD in 1861, the Emily May steamship was launched from the shipyard at #BelleEwart. She was a side-wheeler, measuring 47m ) in length by 7.3 in width, capable of sustained speeds of 35 km/h. The Emily May steamed around Lake Simcoe for two decades, connecting the railway station at Belle Ewart to towns around the lake. Sadly in 1882 she caught fire while anchored in Belle Ewart. #CanadaIsAwesome https://www.orilliamatters.com/local-news/column-steamer-jetted-around-lake-with-unmatched-speed-7944265#google_vignette

Good Morning #Canada Yesterday I posted some #History about my new neighbourhood and today I have a #RoadTrip suggestion for our previous home. My wife, daughters, dogs and I spent 3 decades hiking the trails in Caledon, when we lived in Brampton and later just south of Belfountain. This video covers a trail network that was a 15 minute walk from our former home on Mississauga Road. It brought back a lot of memories. #CanadaIsAwesome https://youtu.be/wWYhdum6XOk

Good Morning #Canada OTD in 1944, Tommy Douglas becomes the Premier of Saskatchewan. In just a few short years he would implement #UniversalHealthcare in the province and spark similar movement across Canada, ultimately resulting in a national program. He is undoubtedly one of the most impactful Canadians in history and we need another like him to deliver us from capitalism's hold on government policy. #CanadaIsAwesome #CanadianLegends #CanPoli https://www.thefamouspeople.com/profiles/tommy-douglas-4400.php

Good Morning #Canada Happy #CanadaDay to Canadians who love our country because of it's natural beauty, because we punch above our weight class on the world stage, and in spite of flaws which sometimes threaten to derail our future. Besides flag waiving & poutine eating, today's a good day to reflect on major turning points in our history. I'll share 2 that I think are important. Although there are hundreds of events that qualify, IMO these are significant. #CanadaIsAwesome #History

Good Morning #Canada #HappyBirthday to Katherine Louisa Ryan, born June 30, 1983. She's traveled a long way from Sarnia Ontario where she grew up to become a successful comedian, writer, presenter, actress and singer in Britain. While studying city planning at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University), she worked at the restaurant chain Hooters and performed at open mic nights for her own entertainment. #CanadaIsAwesome https://youtu.be/EQMNP6dFNuo

Good Morning #Canada #HappyBirthday to Elliot Page, born February 21, 1987, in Halifax Nova Scotia. Page is a Canadian actor, producer, and activist, known for his leading roles across Canadian and American film and television, and for his outspoken work as an activist for #LGBTQ rights and against discrimination. His accolades include nominations for an Academy Award, three BAFTA Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a SAG Award. While most of his career was performed as Ellen Page, he came out as gay in 2014 and as transgender in 2020. Next time we try to summon the courage to defend or joyfully acknowledge a LGBTQ friend or relative, we should recognize the struggle that most experience just to find a little bit of happiness. Everyone deserves to love and be loved. #CanadaIsAwesome #CanadianHeroes https://www.biography.com/actors/elliot-page

Good Morning #Canada Today we all finally come to our senses and bow down to the knowledge of prognosticating rodents. Yes, it's #GroundHogDay2026. Beyond the obvious impact of totally rearranging your next 6 weeks based on the prediction of some small mammal, or lobster, there is the economic impact. Wharton, Ontario, a town of 1,900 seemingly sensible Canadians will generate enough tourism dollars to keep Willie in the lifestyle to which he is accustomed. Some rodent in Pennsylvania has already predicted 6 more weeks of winter, but let's face facts, the U.S. is not really trustworthy these days. Lucy the Lobster in Nova Scotia and Fred La Marmotte in Quebec are both reporting an early spring. The link below provides an update from others across Canada. Why don't we have a prognosticating beaver? #CanadaIsAwesome #Weather https://www.theweathernetwork.com/en/news/weather/forecasts/groundhog-day-2026

Good Morning #Canada On this day in 2012 Leonard Cohen releases "Old Ideas", an album that becomes No.1 in 10 countries. It easy to forget just how big an impact Cohen made in music from the late 60s through to this album. Many fans were introduced to his music via his song "Hallelujah". Cohen first released it on his 1984 album Various Positions, though it gained massive popularity through covers by artists like Jeff Buckley and K.D. Lang. He had an incredible journey, starting as a poet, enjoying stardom in the 70s, retiring to a monastery in the 90s, and having to tour later in life to rebuild his fortune after suffering embezzlement by his agent. #CanadaIsAwesome #CanadianLegends https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Cohen
