A quotation from Kerry Greenwood    “I always found faith a great comfort. Otherwise it is too much, Phryne. Too cruel. To think that all the lads, all those boys, were just gone, blown out like candles. Don’t you agree?”    “I do,” said Phryne. “I like to think of them sitting down with all their mates to a serious drinking session, washed clean of mud and stench, all shiny and jolly. And if that doesn’t constitute heaven, I’m not going; though, of course, I might not have the option.” Kerry Greenwood (b. 1954) Australian author and lawyer Phryne Fisher Book 20, Murder and Mendelssohn, ch. 7 (2013) More about this quote: wist.info/greenwood-kerry/8612… #quote #quotes #quotation #qotd #kerrygreenwood #missfisher #phrynefisher #afterlife #casualties #fatalities #heaven #war #wwi

#WWI #WW1 Help please. Which are the best books from France? I'm a casual reader around society and politics, so I particularly liked that British Army doctor's book. [edit needed obvs] What's available in translation into English that gives a sense of individuals and/or their families going through military service? Also, I've also only read one German WW1 book. That one. So recommendations are equally welcome for Germany or anywhere that might fit the spec. #France #histodons

Good Morning #Canada #Manitoba is on an upward trajectory in the past year, except for very recent heat waves and wildfires. The province may be returning to a similar positive period in early 1900 when Winnipeg was booming and 1 of the most beautiful legislature buildings in Canada was built. It's story has many twists and turns, and overcame #WWI, the end of Winnipeg's boom, general strikes, and corruption. #CanadaIsAwesome #History #Architecture https://youtu.be/XZQGQwll7mw
